I have a ride weekend coming up on the KTM Scotty so will sort it for sure. Cheers for the thoughts and will post what I find.
I have only discounted the Dr650, KLR 650, and anything older then 2 years or over 20k

Yes it is Boony, I found that amusing too. In all reallity its a pretty good idea for an adventure bike but it just looks like Yamaha have little confidence in it going the distance. No doupt it will but very reliable, the motor has been around for a while and is rock solid.

I doubt it has anything to do with reliability, more towing out of bogs cause of the weight really people :P

I think the Yamaha is the right bike for you TB.

I test rode both and the Yamaha is very well balanced and feels more like a large dirt bike. The weight didn’t seem to be an issue and with the extra power unleashed with a pipe and air box mods it may feel lighter again.

I don’t know anyone that has one but I have seen a few around here.

And yes BMW accessories are really really expensive, that’s why I wont buy them from BMW.

i really dont think that the yamaha people would be expecting this weapon to break down, It looks like they have just utilised some spare space left from moving the guard down near the tyre.

What about a 640adv – they seem priced really well.

Is the 990adv too big for what you want? There’s a nice one on ADV I’ll post a link.

990 is way to big, they haven’t made a new 640 since 2006? or 2007 and its really only a 625cc. Chicken and I really looked hard at the last 2 Sutto ever hard, test rode the whole smash

If I could justify owning one of these I’d be riding it back from townsville right now

hey TB, i know the trandalp is not for you/what you want but have you ridden one?

just trying to find someone that has ridden one and can give me the ins and outs on what they are like.

the only thing i’ve been told was the newer XL600V, 04/05 i think. would be disappointing to ride after riding a ducati monster 600.

but i was interested in the transalp to use similar as you want the Yammy for, not a sports tar top terror.
