For sometime now, a few of us here at OBT admin and contributing members like Boony and Nickj, have been talking about maybe raising some money for our community or a charity close to our heart on some of our bigger ride weekends. As with life now days there will be causes and things going on that will be important to all of us, that we as a group could help. Given that we are lucky enough to attend free ride weekends all over the land, that we either wouldn’t do or would pay up to three or sometimes four hundred dollars for a ride weekend, we felt that a couple of bucks here and there couldn’t hurt
This idea was rammed home recently as an Old Bull who is very well respected and liked amongst the OBT community, has been given news which we could all be faced with, being diagnosed with Cancer and is in the fight off his life. The member in question is Mal from Sutto’s. Mal has been on riding bikes mostly KTM’s forever he has represented Australia at the ISDE, ridden A4DE’s and ridden more miles than most of us dream. Mal has been known to OBT for over two years now and has helped so many here at OBT. I am lucky enough to be able to call Mal a close friend, I have been able to witness what an amazing man he is first hand, at work and in his private life. His knowledge of bikes and all that is bikes, has always amazed me. Now watching Mal battle this terrible disease, I have to say I am both humbled and in awe of the way he conducts himself and continues to worry about everybody else, well before himself, something that I am not alone in noticing. Mal has been absent from Sutto’s since he received the news. Mal is supported by family, friends and the motorcycle industry and I am sure takes all our best wishes.
Cancer is one illness that needs constant funding for research and although a lot of sufferers beat cancer, the search for a permanent cure is still on.
We aren’t asking for large donations so don’t freak out , but we just thought when you buy a beer, fill up the bike or grab a feed on one of the big multi day ride weekends any change your given put it in a separate pocket of your camelback. Later when you spot the Charity fast fill, you can chuck it in and we’ll see how much we can come up with to do our bit!!The idea is for an OBT member at each multi day ride to become the custodian of the fast fill for that weekend. The custodian can then name the charity, make sure the fast fill is around at all times and get the money counted and send the money to the charity named for that ride. For every event the fast fill goes to, I will handle the freight to and from the event for the empty fast fill at no cost to a member, OBT or the charity.
Over time I would hope we can customise the fast fill with stickers and the likes to make it very unique to us here, so it becomes a stand out feature we can carry into a pub or the likes with pride
TB, Chris and the Admin team.
November 20, 2010 at 11:14 pm #191080This is a great idea. maybe while we are having a beer around the BBQ or at the pub we could hold fine sessions, this is good fun and a great way to raise a few bucks for charity. Every little bit helps!!
November 21, 2010 at 12:07 am #191093I’ll put my hand up to be custodian of the charity fast fill for the Coffs ride if thats ok with all concerned.
Being November we could help out Hatto’s quest for the mo and donate the Coffs takings to the Movember Charity.Nick
November 21, 2010 at 12:13 am #191094A fast fill full of money  Now all we have to find is a bike that runs on straight cash  Keeps Taking Money  Just kidding. Bloody great Idea. If that thing gets full of coin it would weigh a ton.

November 21, 2010 at 5:10 am #191081Great idea this one
I was blown away when I heard of Mal`s illness the other week while chatting to TB, and my thoughts are with him & his family pretty often I can tell ya.
I struggle to think of many people that fit into the category where Mal sits, always bending backwards to help others. Many times over he has helped me with parts & tyres etc and always beat local prices & service hands down, even sourced parts that Sutto`s didn`t have on their shelfWhen I met him face to face for the first time (at Wollombi Tavern) he was all smiles & happy to chat as if we were long time friends. He is just such a nice guy & easily approachable to boot. If I don`t get to see Mal in the future, that is the memory I will have of him
So this idea of a charity fundraiser will be one to keep running for years to come & hopefully bring some comfort and assistance to many needy organisations.
Dig deep guys, it just may help more of us in the future……..

Hey Scott seeing it is going to charity $2 pots is still cheap piss! Don’t sell yourself short. Or $1 for the beer and a dollar for each time you swear when you have that beer. I think $2 pots will be cheaper  I’m not a cane toad it just sounds better! than $2 middies
