AnonymousI haven’t done a round of the local championships in well over 12 months. the final round between cessnock and central coast was on last weekend at kurri kurri junior track. The track looks awesome so I wanted a bit of it.
the pie and sausage roll we got from the servo was yuk, so racy and I stopped in at westy to go to the hot bread shop for breaky. Whilst at westy we also said hi to the boys ready to ride a soggy sugie.
Except for a vintage mx I have only done trail riding this year. And it shows. I normally do pretty well in b grade mx. I used to do quite well in local a grade in my twenties . But now… I’m slow as…
I was last into the first turn in every race. One of my work mates, who I normally beat at mx, crashed in front of me and still pulled away and beat me.
As I have not been on a race track in ages, I didn’t realise until I got out onto the dirt track section that the spark was breaking down. I also found out that that full throttle does not like oiled filter skins.
Changed the plug and removed the filter skin and all was sweet.
the weather was awesome (we did have shower at lunch time) and so was the track. The track was also beautiful with the whole thing surrounded in flowers. So much so, whilst being corner marshals, josh green and I decided to decorate the loamy burms by planting flowers in them. We were expecting people would try to roost them away, but riders would give us thnkyous as they came round. How sweet are us?
I’m keen to get back into it for some more next year. Sadly I may go into the over 35 class
But as I said ‘The old grey man she aint what she used to be’
November 12, 2009 at 11:29 pm #160857You will have to sneak up here and do a few rounds next year Champo, although the over 35’s is one of the most hottly contesetd classes up here.
November 12, 2009 at 11:35 pm #160861How green are those track surrounds
. I am surprised you would run a filter skin on a wet day when there would be no dust, it would just richen the mixture up like it did I guess
Getting old is ok, someone has to come last

AnonymousGeez, you ride pretty good Champo and you’re getting towelled…..the other boys must be pretty good!
They do say that racing improves your riding. Hopefully, i’ll ride better after the Port Pony Express then
November 12, 2009 at 11:45 pm #160866Welcome to your dotage Champo, re the over 35s’ (greybeards) I was told last year Glen Bell and some of his contemporaries was in that Amcross class, numbers dropped off for some reason….
Hint- do what i do and sneak out on Non-club days and ride the track yourself alone, you always come first tha way………unless your smartarse 8 yr old comes along, but at least you still get a place.

i didn’t worry about the filter skin at first as i was not taking the the day very seriously. it was only the dirt track straight that the bike needed power.
and i didn’t come last, i was still getting up into top 5. but beaten by the the guys i use to beat. i was mainly riding to finish the day in one chunk.
i’m racing at that track again next weekend on the thumpstar. there is normally good prize money which i’m going to try to win some for movember. however i have very little experience at riding pit bikes. i will try a little harder but expecting to bin it.
November 13, 2009 at 12:00 am #160872Thats good, I didn’t so much mean you had come last but someone has to was what I was saying and that’s OK because if no one came last there would be no field  Winnings not everything I just race for the fun now days and to do my best that I can and finish in one piece
Good luck next week then

AnonymousAhhh…well top 5 is still pretty good.
It must be annoying to get beaten by people who you used to beat though! TB will know all about this soon
November 13, 2009 at 12:08 am #160878Maybe your mate squirrel will ride his new one there or at least the shop at Cessnock will know him when he wants parts

also interesting is that i noticed a couple of years ago that i think much of the australian six day teams came from cmcc and ccdr.
ccdr also has a world champ as a member and the track that we rode has 2 world champs as past members.
i live in a fast part of au. i’m just not one of them

AnonymousThere goes my chance of a trophy then. I’ll have to move out the back of Burke or really push a season in the junior girls…even then I’m a long shot

I have mates out there who’ve never raced a day intheir lives yet wipe the “fast blokes” over here when we go for a “casual” ride.
Better off trying New Guinea.
or The Solomons.
and fer christ sake don’t even contemplate NZ, they are insanely quick over there, look at the Motorcycling champs and teams they produce.
