I buy stuff online from overseas and Australia and I use bike shops too but heres a thought.
What if you get a puncture out in the bush………………………….who fixes it then?
Now that it has been broken down and itemised it seems like a reasonable price, $45 tube, $90 an hour labour divided by 4. Close enough to $25. Not that I would ever pay for that.
I will put new tubes in for cartons of beer all day long, should be nice and drunk by the end of the day too.
June 21, 2013 at 1:05 am #243958In a previous life I used to deal with many motorcycle shops for work. Rock Motorcycles included. The family businesses are usually the best especially when they get to know you.
I can honestly say It was always a pleasure dealing with Peter and Margret (infact the whole family).
The fact that Rory responded to your email and offered a resolution goes along way to showing their integrity. You should judge a company on how they react when solving a problem not when things go well.
As for charging to fit the tube. They have to pay their workshop and they are providing a service so that is fair.June 21, 2013 at 1:48 am #244061I got a quote from Australia Post to send my rear wheel to a Californian bike shop. Return freight would be $265.30. You can send it cheaper but that takes up to 8 weeks. Using the current exchange rate I found a Calfornian bike shop that fits tubes for free if you buy a tyre but charge $19.35 (aus ) to fit otherwise. They stock Bridgestone UHD tubes for $34.95 (aus ).
Total cost is $319.60 with a turn around of about three weeks.STM
June 21, 2013 at 1:51 am #244062This is why you shouldn’t shop overseas!

Thats a little bit ignorant Scotty
The fact that he was left with distaste in his mouth from going localy (rightly or wrongly) for a specific service
Will affect where he/she will shop next time ……..there is a bigger picture
You will never please everyone
I was once told that in Business 30% of the public will use you because they like your service or you
30 % Don’t won’t an will never agree with anything you provide or suggest
30 % don’t give a shit and will shop wherever convenient or cheapest
and finally 10 % are just Dickheads :unsure:I realise or are assuming that this is a site sponsor and this will tick some people off and they feel compelled to defend them
However to the original posters?? credit no specifics were ever mentioned (that i saw)
To the supposed shop in questions credit they have come to the party and are willing to address the issueAnd relating to the other issue of shopping o/s , because we live in such an affluent way and expect our standard of living to continually increase , we are shitting in our own nest
and last time i checked we live on a pretty big island.
Since everyone wants to be paid top dollar for doing fucall everything has to come from O/s including the bloke who has to make your $3 pies :huh:My rant

I Agree LC, my local dealer will fit tyres free if I buy them off him, I never let him though, I go home and get on the levers to do it myself, makes for good practice.
Although he is a nice guy, he hasn’t offered to follow me around when I go riding in case I get a flat.June 21, 2013 at 2:53 am #244064Bob wrote:Thats a little bit ignorant Scotty

You’re full of it Bob.
You get your parts from City Coast Motorcycles in Wollongong, they get delivered for free and fitted for free, you should be pleased about that

June 21, 2013 at 2:56 am #244065The original post/whinge has been moderated and I assume it did mention the bike shop by name and that bike shop/site sponsor has been notified by admin or moderator, which is a good thing because now they can try and fix the situation.

June 21, 2013 at 3:08 am #244068Thats a lie, they did wash/hose it once
June 21, 2013 at 3:51 am #244069Does a bike shop ever fit a bike tyre for free ? Isn’t it just added into the cost of the tyre so we can’t see it ? That’s what I always thought, not that I care, I still get a tyre on the bike so I’m happy

Either way I’m more than happy to sort it out for you with a refund or credit.
We ain’t planning on retiring early on tube fitting it must have been a stuff up.
Phone me tomorrow on 02 65836655 Rory Rock and ill fix up the price difference. We sell the following hd tubes:-
– Kenda tuff tube hd $30
– Bridgestone mh $35
– Bridgestone uh $45
Prices from memory for 18″.
I will double check with my service dept but I thought we where charging $20 to fit.
If you had mentioned you where obt the guys have been told to knock 10% off parts.Ps. Carton of beer to change a tube, unless you are buying them overseas as well that would be costing you about $35-40 per tube?
Can’t be fairer than that.
I live in the same area and buy from the same shops and have found them to be very fair and helpful.
The other day a plug on my wiring loom broke and I couldn’t start my bike. I rang my local bike shop and they didn’t have one in stock but they cut one off an old loom and gave it to me for free. Service with a capital S.
My son and daughter also ride and this same shop recently donated gift vouchers, prizes and give-away stuff for kids who participated in the race series. I haven’t seen too many O/S shops giving my kids any support.
Motorcycling is an expensive sport and I think most of us have to do the best we can with the money we have. Sometimes that may mean shopping around or even overseas. But if you want local business to support local riders then its a no brainer.
If you were unhappy at the time why not talk to them ?????

It wasn’t moderated by any of the admin. He was free to have a rant and he did, that is what forums are about, although, it may have been better if he had a rant at the shop in person before airing it on a public forum. He has edited his post as you didn’t have to read much into it to work out who he had a gripe with.
June 21, 2013 at 5:45 am #244164Fair enough.
I don’t see the point in editing your own post, if you are truly unhappy why not name and shame?
June 21, 2013 at 7:31 am #243959Unfortunately we have had no contact from my disgruntled customer, something we would have appreciated in person rather than reading on a forum that we have contributed over $1000 in product to help support and drum up a little bit of business. Sour taste in the mouth? yes I feel a little bitter too!
Upon getting to work today I ran this by my staff and checked all my computer records from the days in question, we have very detailed records on the transaction.
Now I dont begrudge anyone a good vent, I get it quite a bit been in retail. I think I usually handle it pretty well but every now and then i get it wrong and learn a lesson. My dads been doing this for 30 years and he always tells me its better to cop it on the chin and give a refund or work something out with customers who have issues rather than sticking to your guns. I would love to do so in this case but again no contact, what should i do?
It is only fair though that we be judged on facts not what has been sprayed on here.
Heres how my records appear, if they are incorrect and you have receipts showing different I am happy to refund the whole lot just to make up for the disatisfaction. Thats right the whole lot in cash!
Wednesday 19/6 4:32pm – we sold a Kenda tuff tube $34.95 paid for via eftpos card. Now all my other Kenda tubes are labelled 29.95 so yes we have stuffed up. I clearly owe you $5 in refund here, however its a little way off your figure of $45. My parts guy explained the $20 fitting charge (not $25) and said we could do it next day as we where nearly closed.
Thursday 20/6 – you came back in to store and yes we had stuffed up and the tube had not yet been fitted. My guys are busting their balls at the moment and we are getting by on 3 people less than a few years ago. They apologised and fitted the tube right there and then and did it fairly quickly.
You paid $20 with a eftpos card again at 12:14pmYou seem to have a different figure in your records of $70 all up. I show that you only paid $54.95 so either you have been charged differently on your cards (although my tills balanced so i dont think so) or you have got your figures slightly wrong.
Either way I am sure that a quick phone call would have sorted it out pretty quickly. Again if you are entirely unhappy I will refund the whole $54.95 in cash.
