May 30, 2012 at 1:51 am #223024That Chick would be someones mum by now and not quite so trim.
That YZ looks like a Dack special.
I’ve seen some restorations but 6K on an ’89 YZ is kind of …. wtf. I mean they weren’t worth that new.
Hats off for a grand effort regardless.May 30, 2012 at 1:57 am #223025“people will stare at it on the trailer” that’s gold i reakon i would,my sons got that poster on his bedroom door

May 30, 2012 at 6:38 pm #223040You should of had a go Menace. I rebuilt my Kato wheels and painted the hubs not long before I sold it, I found it quite theraputic!
Good luck with the project, that UNIT one looks friggin’ sweet! I’m still trying figure out what Mick was doing a) out of Wauchope and b) in a UNIT store
Maybe he thought other like minded ‘units’ might be in there

June 6, 2012 at 9:43 pm #222639I had a 90 YZ250WR in 91 or 92, still remember the engine. Angry was the only word to describe it.
When i was a kid in shorts i used to walk up to procycles in Hornsby a few times a week, bug the hell out of Frank Pons, Dave Middleton and Vincent Teseriero. Frank was prepping belly’s YZ’s at the time and the dayglo orange paint was a nightmare, had to be repainted after every race to keep Malbro happy.
I do remember getting a reed block spacer made to try and give it some bottom end and fitting a heavy flywheel to tame it and help the lightswitch not flick as hard.
Forks and shock were awful too, no idea about suspension then, if you saw a bump you just had top do a wheelie…June 6, 2012 at 9:45 pm #223575hey TB do you have any of the old spokes? Do they run a long and short spoke?
June 6, 2012 at 9:57 pm #223576good to see they get pride of place TB
thats a f**ker about the spokes. i know they are special order. do you think ballards will accept them as the wrong ones and therefore swap them over??
and TB, you do have them in the right holes dont you
they look like they could go another hole aroundnot that i, in any way, would doubt your spoke poking expertise
June 6, 2012 at 9:59 pm #223583I’d just cut them to size and use a bit of super glue, their only menances.
July 31, 2012 at 3:12 am #223584was around at Craigs on the weekend and we did a bitta work.
i finally finished cleaning up the airbox with some steel wool, a hot air gun and some WD40. it came up a trat… but i forgot to take a photo of it :pinch:
craig had received his u-beaut super expensive polish from the states and rubbed up the swingarm (why he didnt clear coat it i will never understand  ) i looks f**king awesome anyway!
he had also torqued everything possible to the exact footing of poundage
and fitted the radiator support bracket and wiring loom
after sorting out the myriad of washers and spacers in the bearing kit… and comparing it to the trusty old Clymer manual, we got shock, linkages and swingarm on
looks wicked we reckon :woohoo:
shockeroony…
bracket and loom (not happy with that dirt on the loom, need to come off again!) :laugh:TB had just informed me that he has sorted the spoke issue by having them shortened and retapped. should have em in a couple of weeks.
bloody legend isnt hefound a mob in the states that has new Minuki 38mm smoothbore flatside carbys.
can get it delivered with any jetting we like for $220. thats cheap!!!
cant see the point of putting a 23 year old carby back on and looking at the old one, its pretty worn out.the recommended jetting specs came with the new FMF system…. however do any of you 2 stroke gurus know if the specs will be different again, as we have changed the reeds and block to a V-Force 3 set up???????
and while im at it, does anyone know what a ‘power jet’ does? as there seems to be a newer model carb with one????
and so the battle continues
