Here Goes,,,,
YENGO NP daclared a WILDERNESS AREA by NSW Government:angry:This is possibly gonna have a big impact on popular riding trails.
Wilderness areas have NO ACCESS to anyone, even fire fighters:(Same thing happened to Wollemi NP years ago, it used to be used by many recreational users, then ,,,,GONE to ALL:angry:
June 1, 2009 at 7:26 am #137594Be interesting Eagle as we went through there from Laguna to Putty and back on the Denman Ride
Why would this be, its a trail / track / dirt road through there, there is no single trails being cut or flogged to death by people going over and over that I know of
Very very sad news

June 1, 2009 at 7:45 am #137602Here Eagle, there could be a faint hope, this was posted there late this arvo
Don’t worry fellas it won’t change any access for Yengo NP. Big Yango is still open & the Womerah Range is open via access permit (use to be closed), Old Settlers Road is open from the Putty Road but closed at Private Property at Paynes Crossing (been closed for a number of years thanks to an inconsiderate 4WD group). The Yango / Howes Trail is open rights through from Finchley to the Putty Road. Can still even horse ride at Big Yango.
Call the Ranger on 43204219 (direct). The Old Bulls Biggest weekend out was going through there, so I will have to send Chicken out for a reconnaissance mission

June 1, 2009 at 8:21 am #137597Whew!
A look at the document linked from teh explorOz site seems to rule out the main tracks as being included in the wilderness area.
http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/resources/parks/YengoFactSheet.pdf
Will the proposed wilderness area affect
horseriding and 4WDs?
The proposed wilderness area does not include
significant 4WD and horseriding routes. Road
closures in the recommended wilderness will be
limited to ‘dead end’ trails that receive low levels
of recreation use. The proposed area does not
include any non NPWS roads.
Old Settlers, Yango/Howes Valley, Boree,
Finchley, Prestons and the trail network used by
horseriders in Parr SRA are not proposed for
closure.Does the recommended wilderness area include
Old Settlers Road or Howe’s / Yango Track?
No. The recommended declared wilderness is
divided into three significant areas. One area is
to the north of the Old Settlers Road, another
between the Old Settlers Road and the Howes
Valley Trail/ Yango Track and the third is to the
south of Howes Valley Trail/ Yango Track (north
of the Womerah Range Trail). The wilderness
area borders both roads but does not include
them.Is Big Yango included in the identified or
proposed wilderness area?
No. Areas which were substantially modified and
not capable of being restored were generally
excluded from the identified wilderness. This
included most of Parr State Recreation Area
(generally south/south east of Webbs Creek), the
Big Yango Station within Yengo National Park
(lands NE of Mt Yengo, bounded to the north by
Yango Track) and the valley areas around
Wallabadah and Boree Valley.
Who can I ask if I have more questions?
For further information contact the Yengo Wilderness
Information Line on 4320 4219That to me rules out the likes of Yengo, old Settlers as being included but it was the proposed area, not necessarily the approved area so may need some clarifications although given the frequency of use of those roads I doubt they will be closed.

June 1, 2009 at 8:25 am #137604There’s a report at the link http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/parktypes/YengoWildernessAssessment.htm which after a quick skim seems to indicate that the main tracks/trails in that area will remain open for access.
Nothing of any detail on the premiers website on environment minister.
The information sheet on the website above calls for submissions by Feb 28 2002,,, so this has been on the boil for a while.
crossing fingers too as this is great riding camping area.
June 1, 2009 at 8:59 am #137598That`s good news already, maybe I jumped the gun a bit too soon ???
Here`s hoping, as I have seen this type of gazzetting of wilderness areas & it normally always brings a lot of closures of areas bit by bit.Lets keep our eyes on the subject & all fingers & toes double crossed
Cheers All

I have no idea where you are talking about, but if it were the Watto’s I’d be pritty upset  👿
If what you say is true and its going to go ahead, is there anything we can do????????? Always keen to save our riding areas as they seem to be dwindling on a regular basis:ohmy: Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for conservation but Ausie is a big place and some of us love to explore some of her (Ausie, why is it a she,,, I don’t bloody know,,,,, too scared to go there) more intamet places. Sure this is best done on foot :X but most of us aren’t getting any younger:( So I say leave it open to at least the most inavasive vehicles at least:) Two wheels cut far less than four:woohoo: Thats strange for me to say as I drive an oversized Nissan Patrol but hey, hoarses for courses.
Is it too late for petitions and the such, or am I jumping the gun?? or too late??
Cheers
