Have now retired the old chook chaser and bought an 04 xr650r.
In the process of setting it up for my next adventure to Wiepa but im after any advise about a thermo fan to suit it, considering there’s no battery its got me snookered. I’ve replaced the light with 2 gen 8 led lights which are bloody awesome and use very little power so i might be able to divert what power i can to a possible fan. looking forward to any feedback.

    Cheers,
    Tony

not too sure how much available power you’d have left over. but some of the computer ones you can get from the likes of Jaycar are low amp drew, and not that expensive. and some flow up to 80cfm. some also have ball bearings in em instead of just a bush.

Further to XY-Transit I have used this model from Jaycar. Its IP55 rated. http://www.jaycar.com.au/productResults3.asp?keywords=yx2522&keyform=KEYWORD&SUBMIT.x=21&SUBMIT.y=11
I also use a thermal switch, as a thermostat to control the fan.

Had the system for at least a year now with no problems plus the fans are cheap to replace.

I have been to Cape York and you wont need a thermo fan for that trip no way. I have used my XR650R for everything including A4DEs etc and have only boiled it twice once when it was new and I didnt know what the go was and the 2nd because I let it idle for to long.

Adam’s setup sounds like the go if you want one (well done Adam ;) ) but unless you are doing Murphburgs singles I wouldnt bother, good cap, good hoses and dont let it idle for long periods

I’ve heard that you can use a KTM one. A bit more suited than a computer one.

BTW have you got a pic of your light setup?
