Guys, thinking of moving back to the East Coast.
Not sure where to go just yet and need some suggestions as to where the best places along the East coast would be?
Obviously a lot of different things need to be weighed up like places to ride close by, work etc.I’m more interested in ADV style riding, so that’s no real issue as I can slab it to wherever I need to get to. Would like to live somewhere that is not a huge place but not too small, I have lived in Sydney before and cant say I’d live there again. My oldies live in Iluka and would like somewhere close to them for my 6 year old to get to know them, but where?
Moving back to the East Coast means I will most likely have to get out of the industry I’m in (Subsea Engineering) but that’s no problem, don’t mind starting fresh in something new. Quite confident of getting work wherever I live, never had an issue with getting work yet.
If you had the choice, where would you prefer to be? Keeping mind we’d all like to be at Hugh Heffner’s house. I’m after some well thought out suggestions from the masses.
Cheers
April 28, 2014 at 3:23 am #256238I may be a bit bias but the Mid North Coast of NSW can’t be beaten. Anywhere between Forster and Yamba is my recommendation.
I live at Wauchope near Port Macquarie and have never run out of riding options.
Read about Port here:

Thinking that I will get some biased replies, its great that people are proud of where they live.
Just need to get them to place their thoughts on here for me to see or provide links as you have done. Would prefer people’s own explanations though.Keep em coming guys.
April 28, 2014 at 9:33 am #256240Come to tamworth mate forget the adv bike their overrated .
dunno about subsea engineering out this way. but there are engineering things out here that don’t involve the sea probably get a go in a coal mine…

April 28, 2014 at 9:44 am #256254My personal preference is the far south coast. Great riding and a nice cool climate. Not at all close to Iluka though… on the plus side, it would not surprise me if you could keep your career at a place like Eden. It is a long coastline, lots of choice. My second choice would be mid-north, as per Mick’s post.
April 28, 2014 at 11:57 am #256241The Coffs Harbour general area has a lot of pluses going for it and some mining operators do fly in fly out out of there , it’s an hour or so South of Iluka and has all the riding you could wish for , not far away , my brother has a property about 45 mins North of Coffs in the Coastal ranges East of Grafton , great country and riding through there . Nickj lives not far from your Olds , he should be along soonish to tell you how good the North Coast is
. I really like the coastal area just South of Coffs myself , Sawtell & Repton – Mylestom area is great …… and off the mainstream radar so to speak . Bellinger river is beautiful and looks pristine . We stayed in the van park in Repton and even my wife was talking about checking out real estate to consider the area for my not too far off retirement
.

MurphApril 29, 2014 at 2:24 am #256257If you can pick up some work the Port Macquarie area does have a lot to offer. Good riding, fishing, beaches, golf courses plus an airport 5 minutes from town.
April 29, 2014 at 3:44 am #256242Cheers for the input guys, looking like the Port Macquarie area keeps coming up.
I’ll have to have look around there for jobs and see what’s available.
I have applied for an ops manager position up here which will keep me at home and away from the floating time bombs (drilling rigs).
This is the next logical step in my career which will be more transferable to different areas of the country as opposed to the current subsea engineering work which is too geographically constrained. Great in Darwin or Perth but not so much on the east coast, not sure what this would look like on my resume in a Port Macquarie business? Need to start drilling holes in the ground off the coast.
Anyhow, if I get this new job up here it will push me back a couple of years away from moving, but good to get some feedback from you guys as to where to actually go to, just in case I don’t get it.
Be glad to finally get out and ride in some hills/ mountains and camp in some cool weather for a change.April 29, 2014 at 6:53 am #256266The newcastle and central coast areas have a bit to offer as well. Reasonably large engineering companies as wee as the mines and power stations for work. Good riding areas as well as beaches, vineyards and ports.
