When I got home from the pony express on Sunday, the missus said to me,
“some kid came around and put a motorbike in the shed”,
“What for?” was my obvious answer.
“He wants you to fix it”. she said
“What kid?” I asked
“Didn’t say his name”.she replied
Strange,I thought to myself.
So I stuck my head in to have a look and sure enough there was a YZ80E (1978) leaking oil on my shed floor.
WTF? I wonder who owns that?Anyhow I still don’t know who owns it, but I had a bit of a tinker with it yesterday arvo, I put another plug in it replace the fuel which appeared to be a 50/50 mix of oil and fuel and had the consistancy of diesel.
It has bugger all compression, so I clutched it down the driveway and the little old YZ fired up and you should have seen the smoke coming out of it!! The oil leak it had, was the oil built up in the exhaust.
Connor and I did a few laps of the house on it before the missus told me to stick it up my arse. It seems to go OK now.
I wonder if the kid is coming back to get it? Hope he does cause I don’t want it.November 17, 2008 at 11:35 pm #112365Hey Mick,

A YZ80E was the first bike that I ever rode with them new fangled power band thingies that if you hit the “band” you’d flip it, I was told. I was packing it when I first rode it!!
I have the same model YZ50 in realy good nick in the shed, now that is a collectors item. I also have another one under the house in pieces.November 18, 2008 at 12:29 am #112385November 18, 2008 at 9:54 pm #112386The owner of the YZ turned up yesterday,as it turns out his father owns the bakery next door to my work.He knew that I rode bikes and told his son to go round and ask if I would fix the bike, not just dump it there! The kid is in year 11, 6′ tall and is 105kg’s a big ask for a YZ80.
When I got to work this morning there was a ctn of Tooheys dry and a note of thanks on my desk,so it was worth the effort to get it going for him.November 18, 2008 at 10:11 pm #112367Thanks and a carton of beer goes along way in my books ,sounds like its time for a upgrade from the 80 im sure you would have something in the shed you could sell him Mick
