After riding with Alyssa and Stephen two weeks ago on an ORE ride we decided to hook up for a girlie’s ride up at Kurri Kurri on single tracks to sharpen up our technical skills. We noticed another lady new to OldBulls – Flying Fish (Amy) was from up that way and twisted her arm to come along for a giggle. This required some backup so Alyssa better half Stephen provided the navigation skills so we didn’t get lost and Mick (smick400) was chief photographer, bike picker-up-a and skills coach (that’s only when we were listening).
So left Artarmon at 6.00am with hangover (again!!) with bike on trailer, picked up Mick and bike and drove to Kurri Kurri…. Stopped at the gap Service Station for egg/bacon roll and coffee and that seemed to settle the head and stomach.
By 8.15am we arrived and slowly got the bikes ready and got dressed. As all good girl’s do… we yapped, yapped and did more yapping than getting ready. Amy arrived closely followed by her BF (Mike) on a nice and shiny Triumph. Not sure how that was going to handle the dirt…..Mike was escorting Amy to the start point to ensure Amy was safe in the hands of Alyssa/Kat…..mmmm well we looked safe… but NOT in the bush!!!!.. haha
Girls meeting and yapping…. Mike’s shiny bike in the foreground
Straight into the bush after 50metre’s of tar riding… didn’t see the black stuff for the rest of the day (only mud.
Group huddle… to catch our breath… the first 30mins got the heart pounding
Nice little stroll up a muddy hill
Trying to pick the right lines
Kat flying…..
Alyssa had a little lie down… i think it was due to us all stopping on a big downhill and she had know where to go but down!!
Amy found some mud to ensure her bike got dirty
Alyssa and Amy …. getting the thumbs up from Amy that all was good – we hadn’t killed her yet!!
Kat picking her lines….
Amy learning how to roost… glad I hung back
Kat succeeding in digging the back wheel into the mud.
Girlie shot…. Amy on left…. Kat in middle and Alyssa on right…. I so look like a little kid
Amy taking a corner with Stephen in the background
Next was Alyssa
Kat in flight
Amy showing her style
Alyssa showing how easy it is….
I’m sure Amy was saying….”don’t fall into the rutt”
The boys made sure they found some logs for us to practice on…. Alyssa showed the way
Then came Amy….
Mick got a close up on how NOT to go over a log
Alyssa coming up a challenging bit first…and showing us all how its done
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pav2Hd_8DuI&feature=youtu.beAmy was next up the hill
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQ_OTCq8TBM&feature=youtu.beVIDEO COMING of me going up the hill….. (it has to be the funniest video I’ve seen of myself attempting to ride a bike – I blame the low profile of my bike – the pegs got stuck along with bash plate)….
NOTE:…for video:
1. I DIDN’T call myself ‘Horny’…
2. the ‘F’ word came out in frustration … sorry
3. Alyssa giggle is so infectious that we were all laughing hard by the end.
4. The bike was to blame NOT the riderWe came to the snarly hill… Stephen showed us the path to take…. Mick was ready with the camera …. but all us girls got up there without providing more entertainment
Us girls were quivering with anticipation ….once we knew the lines to take…… thanks Stephen
Kat went up first…. wasn’t graceful but got up without disgracing myself…. got to punch my fists in the air after the accomplishment
Amy was next and cruised up… but at the top her eyes were popping out of her goggles… more fist punching occurred
Last was Alyssa and her infectious giggle was heard thru the valley.
More mud holes… but nicely negotiated by Amy and Alyssa. The boys were hoping we wouldn’t see the track off to the right… they wanted all three girls stuck in the mud…..mmmmm dream on boys!!
Stephen showing how to do a wheelie…. .
This was an interesting short downhill followed by a creek crossing then up a sandy steep hill that turned right….. can you see i was in FULL concentration…. again thanks to Stephen on the tips to get across cleanly.
Alyssa gave it a go but had a little stop on the way up the other side.
This is my favorite shot… we came up this up hill section full of erosion humps with sharp corners going left and right…. I decided to take off and was ringing the 230 and you could hear me from miles away…. this was the last jump and I was totally out of control and laughing my head off…. Mick was watching in amazement… I somehow came to a stop without crashing and was going completely off….it was one of those moments that I was in pure heaven and nothing could change that.
This was one time I was happy to be a short stuff…. Amy had to bend down to get under the old railway bridge
Over the shoulder shot of Kat in action
Amy going thru a creek
As does Alyssa
Kat was obviously tied as I was trying to work out how to get thru this…. turned out that I need to go further down the railway line….. I’m blonde
The girls after a dirty ride
The day was priceless………
Big THANK YOU to Alyssa and Stephen for not only hosting the ride but opening up your house and cooking up an amazing BBQ. I still got shed envy!!
Also have to say thanks to Mick for taking all the photo’s and videos…. so sorry I didn’t take the camera off you to get a couple of shots of you in action.
Lastly I have meet on this trip two awesome women Alyssa and Amy (Flying Fish) who like me have a passion for this sport and are out there giving it a go. I’m SOOO looking forward to doing this again… and again….. and again.
It also turns out that Flying Fish is planning to do APC Rally so it may be looking like I have a ride buddy!!

May 13, 2012 at 9:57 pm #221694Awesome ride report Kat and top pic’s and vid’s Mick.
One the way home I felt so good (smiling ear to ear) and decided that for me that day embodied what I think the Spirit of Adventure Riding is all about (even though we were on endure bikes, the point is still the same). Great Trails, Great People and Great Memories. :woohoo: To be shown around someone’s local trails with a sense that we were all there to meet new people, have fun and support each other was just so great.
The hospitality you guy’s (Kat, Stephen, Alyssa, and Mick) showed me exceeded all expectations, and I look forward to repaying that one day soon. The variety of trails, riding tips, help and FUN made that ride one of the best I have been on :silly: . Not to mention finding two awesome girls to ride with is incredible. Thank you! I can’t wait to do it again!!!!
Kat, the only thing you didn’t mention was the “liedown” count. This is where I have to fess up that I ended the day with the most with 2 (or 3 if you count losing my balance while sitting still) . If Alyssa had footage of a slow motion off I had after getting crossed up in some ruts, it would be a great laugh for all. It was funny from my point of view, let along from behind. I’m sure I was starting to laugh before I rolled onto the ground.Mike is stoked that his Trumpy made it into the story. I defiantly need to work on his choice of bike.
Kat, you and me on the APC – I can’t wait! Alyssa, are you sure we can’t convince you to come along. Considering how much fun Saturday was, just think who much trouble the three of us could get into over 14 days.
Cheers all,

I did that on purpose
. Didn’t want to upset you and jeopardies my new found riding buddy for APC Rally…. your count was actually 3 (THREE). One cross rutted face plant that was graceful, one was a gentle lean back to talk to us girls followed by a flop and the last one I missed out.

I’m not sure if my stomach muscles could take 14 days of belly laughs…. but oh wouldn’t it be good to have Alyssa come along…
I have covered allot of ground today in getting my shit together for APC. GPS orders and arrives here by end of week. Screen ordered from Eagle Screens – due in two weeks. Bought camping stove etc …should be here within a week…. Now I have to hit up Steve at Adventure Moto and organise my luggage and fuel bladder….

OK Three it is. The third was when my back wheel slid out on a….on a…O I can’t remember what caused it, but I’m not sure my hands hit the ground  I definitely didn’t plan it so it counts as a drop.
Actually if I’m totally honest Stephen probably saved me from a forth when I was off line after a creek crossing (o no- that’s almost a cricket score). The place where Alyssa did her awesome stunt woman wheelie up and out of the creek.Fear not, it takes more than mentioning my gumpy moments to upset me. Anyway they were all worth it for the laughs.
