April 27, 2011 at 8:01 pm #200214Dont worry fellas!! I fixed it. It will go heaps faster now.
April 27, 2011 at 8:28 pm #200215There is no effing way a 2003 model YZ handles better then a brand new enduro 4 stroke or 2 stroke of any make or capacity.

so tell me why LC4?….
BTW I regularly ride new bikes, and new bikes too, not stuck in a time warp, just haven’t found anything that handles sharper except an RM250 or the 2T 125s…
I love advancement, I love technology that works, so far I’m unimpressed with the last few years except the Husabergs, and I’m still waiting on more.very clever Michael, did they teach you that at Newspaper university too?..
April 27, 2011 at 8:49 pm #200217Imagine how good a new bike would handle if you spent all that time and money on the upgrades you have done to yours
KTM 250 2 stroke only 103kgs with electric start and nice easy to use bottom end power
A mate of mine has a 2005 (I think) like yours with rego, he had a heavier fly wheel weight and it was still tricky to ride in tight and steep terrain, the suspension was tuned for trail riding too

Who Bruce, thats a nice vintage model you have there. Look it still had a kick-starter, a steel frame and is that a carby I can see in there? What’s up with the header pipe? It looks like a pregnant guppy. Have you retrofitted the rear suspension and brakes? Surely a 2003 model would have come with twin shocks and drum brakes. Come to think of it I think I once seen one of these models on a Steve Mcqueen movie I saw years ago. I bet it’s hard to find parts for.
April 27, 2011 at 9:05 pm #200218You blokes are funny buggers, specially seeing as right now on another forum myself and Robo are having a discussion on pre-70 european MXers….
Truly LC4 they have really only changed the frame material and gone to SSS forks since mine, same geos, engine, all fits mine, the tank is designated for a ’10 model everything, see most people don’t get it with the YZs and RMs they have long model runs, and unless you wanna just throw money, just upgrade the old one.. same bike
April 27, 2011 at 10:32 pm #200219actually the first YZ 250 WR was in 1989 and it had basically the same set up as Bruce’s.
im rebiulding one for a mate at the moment and sourcing parts…
they are so similar…
bloody old schoolers….
thats YOU and the bike Bruce

Not sure on the ’89, but the 91/92 had a real fat lowend and midrange, that didn’t taper off at all, they used to stomp the MXers of the time in accelleration and topspeed…. the way an enduro bike should behave, all balls and ballerina turning ability…
when you get it back together Menace, take it for a good ride, I rode a ’92 a few months back, put a huge smile on my face…. nice rear suspension ratios too…

they are near identical from 89-94. they have the 3JE engine. the WR has different gearbox bits, hence the WR = Wide Ratio.
but hey, why am i telling you this shit Bruce  its a YZ :laugh:it ripped when i rode it years ago but is a basket case now  only the cases are really salvagable. everything else will be new OEM :woohoo: ive been sourcing parts all week
bloody old schoolers
April 29, 2011 at 11:25 pm #200245Apologies for not monitoring the thread but the Pooter been playing up, all the electric mice in their electric wheels went to sleep.
Rec rego in NSW is to offer a viable alternative to riders that ride limited times a year. The beauty of the negotiations that have happened are the MCCofNSW is face to face with NPWS, Lands Dept, MAA, RTA and State Fortests with the backing of NSW Police and Dept of Premiers and Cabinet. The end result is this can only be good for dirt bike riders in NSW. We are arguing that if sites are continually shut down like Menai (see ) then they need to open more sites due to compression of riding, injection of funds to local communities etc etc. This is the start of something that can be good for us.
It is also about 3rd Party Compulsory Insurance CTP and getting robbed, if you only ride 10 weekends a year then Rec Reg will be great for you, if not, get full reg etc.The figure quoted of $120 P/A for Rec Rego will include CTP, Rego, RTA costs etc, one all up cost.
At the moment my CTP is too high, $465 for the DR 650, 1996 model, $373 for the 450 and $547 for the VTR 1000 so it blows.
@ Bundyroy, I have been trying to get more dirt bike clubs involved and dirt bike riders revved up for some time and it is one of the things I am working on as much as I can. DSMRA is affiliated with the MCCofNSW and that is a good start and more and more riders are now seeing the benefits of having a say and getting behind the MCCofNSW. The website is more road oriented but I ride a WR450F, a DR650SE as well as a VTR1000 and along with 2 other members of the executive committee who ride dirt bikes we are pushing the dirt riders issues side by side with road riders.
@ MRBlue re the 23% paid back to riders in claims from CTP. That is correct and it was a direct result of the protest rally we had in Sydney last August that I was pushing. Ernst and Young were appointed to carry out an independent audit of the NSW CTP scheme and that is the first thing they found, we are getting done for twice as much as we should be.
@ TB re double costs to CTP. My partner has 3 250’s and the CTP went from approx $160 to over $340 each. Housemates Hayabusa went up $220 per year. The big winners were between 300cc and 725cc who went down about $40 on CTP.
@ mickmeld and Eagle02, it is up to all of us as riders to stop the tools and fools from fucking it up for the good of all. How we do it will be the next thing but peer group pressure is good and before people arrive at my place they are advised no loud pipes and what the rules are. Obey or don’t ride etc.
