Hi All ,
After 28 years of being bikeless I am about to take the plung and purchase a
2010 KTM 250 EXC two banger and hit the trails again. Any members out their that
can give me some real low down on starting over on a modern 250 two stroke as aposed
to a 250 or 450 Four Stroke ? . All the articles say the EXC has great low end smooth
power delivery and great handeling. I tried test riding one and ya cant tell
much from a 100 long lane behind the dealers shop, all the guys I am gunna
ride with are on WR450’s and the like so their no good to me either. The KATO BARS ME UP but i dont wanna buy it and then find it’s to outa control for
a novice to really enjoy.IS THIS THE TYPE OF BIKE I SHOULD BE RECUTTING MY TEETH ( help ) Anyone out their
thats had a similar dilema in the past, it would be great to here your experiences
with the whole saga.Cheers :woohoo:
February 5, 2010 at 8:28 am #170347Welcome, well I think you have to buy the KTM250 now because thats your name here
A mate of mine Ace had a KTM250 two smoker and it was a pretty potent little weapon I really dont know if its a good get back into bike though not knowing how you ride. Firstly taking all the emoticon out of the decision (and when the two strokers see this they will get wound up as they take over the world as they see it  ) I reckon a WR250 is a great get back into bike and a DR400 also. If you have your set heart on a two smoker then why not a KTM250 I cant see any reason. But to answer your question
“IS THIS THE TYPE OF BIKE I SHOULD BE RECUTTING MY TEETH”
No is my answer unless you had real good teeth beforeWelcome again

February 5, 2010 at 11:15 am #170354Thanks TB as you can tell by the name I am smitten with the KATO …. I guess its got something to do with always wanting one but never having the means to get one. Anyway I think you are right once you take the emotion out of it what you say makes lotsa sence … I will go have a perve at the Yamaha and the Zuke again ……. What you riding currently
Thanks for the welcome its a great site.

February 5, 2010 at 11:20 am #170356Hi WR …. The manual mapping I guess you could call it is very trick ….
and mabe even re gearing it initially may also be an option …. HmmmmmmThanx man
February 5, 2010 at 11:29 am #170374TB I found you guys on the grape vine through mates of mates that
had gone back to D Bikes after the kids grew up and pissed off so
to speak.XR now that brings back some great memories , my last two bikes were
an XR650 RD and I traded it for a 350 the year after cause the big girl
was a bit heavy for me back in those days. They were BOTH brilliant
machines.Hope she serves you well

February 5, 2010 at 12:44 pm #170380Welcome ktm250exc
You can always go easy on the power and tame any machine if you choose. If you love the bike you will not only enjoy your time on it but also your time looking after it.
Just do it and get back out in the Aussie bush ASAP.

February 5, 2010 at 1:03 pm #170383Without knowing how well you ride and where you expect to ride its pretty hard to comment.
If you use your big head you probably should buy a DRZ
If you use your little head you’ll get the kato!
Id get the Kato, I like using my little head.

February 7, 2010 at 4:54 am #170411I kinda like Menace’s reply ….. Tame it down , get used to it and then crack the shit out of it.
If i am gunna die i would ather hit a tree in the gloriouse vic bush than get hit by a bus driver on elizabeth street . …..
I think the KATO is gunna win the race for exactly the same reason i drive a VE SS … because it looks good sound good and makes me feel good . Not sure if that = idiot but or not but at 45 you gotta start thinking about what turns your wheels i supose !
Bollocks were u at, u a victorian and how long you been on the WR 250 ?
