i got plenty of time to think about it ollie but the extra gear on the gas gas has got me thinking love the 6th gear on my ktm and the TM seat is hard

Ha HA good on ya rocket  6th gear would be real handy especially when you ride from Warchoppy to Taree down the HWY:laugh:

And you are also right with regard to the Gasser at the end of the day, still have plenty of energy in the tank.

Better watch out wikedbeemer, you are starting to sound like the typical beemer owners that do laps around nobby’s beach on Sunday afternoons while i’m trying to get to the surf.
    i think i kind-a agree with mick.
if bmw made a trapping valve 2-stroke bike, excluded all the accessories, bling, electronic control, battery, history, condescending attitude, and striped it down to a dirt bike and put a kick starter on it. kept all the clever stuff that others should be doing such as coaxial counter shaft and swing arm pivot, etc. i would buy one and even resist the urge to put honda stickers over the bmw stickers.
if you look at the past bikes i have owned (rego cr, rego yz, xr, tm) i think this is what i like in a dirt bike.

    BMW do have a 300cc 2 stroke. It’s called a Husqvana WR300. :)

I was at the dealer sitting on an ’09’ Gas Gas 300 just the other day and was told they have changed the seat for the ’09’ to make it more comfortable. I think the Gas Gas 300 is a great little bike. I like racing sorta ergonomics which is why I find it strange that I prefer the setup of the Gas Gas over the TM

If I was after a 2 stroke I think the Gas Gas would be the top of my list, closely followed by the Maico 700

having ridden a TM300, I can confidently say the power is very intimidating, the suspesnders and general handling is ace, good as anything I’ve ever known, but the lightswitch power is way way too much for me to harness.
If I was faced with a new registered 2 stroke bike scenario, would be the Husky WR300 hands down.

The new 2-stroke TM has a very adjustable power map I believe. According to those who tried the demo bikes at Catombal you could make the power anything from TM’s version of docile (still not weak by any means) right through to “rip yer arms orf and beat you with the bloody stumps” power.

Not my cup of tea still.

the tm had 8 powervalve settings and two diferent ignition settings with a switch on the handlebars so it had 16 different combinations the main fault with the bike i found was it rode rough wether you could fix this with the clickers or not i don t no the 250 was smoother and not as scary as 300

I didn’t find the power delivery of the TM intimidating in any way. It was strong but not what I was expecting after all the things you hear about them. I can see how it would be tiring in race conditions though.

I ned to ride a new one then cause I found Craigs ’06 to be a lightswitch, comparable to the old CR250s but lots lots more, no bottom end, just a huge rush onto the pipe and singing, blistering eyewatering through the topend, totally unusuable this side of R.C.

The one I rode was an ’06’. I didn’t have heaps at the bottom but I was expecting it to.

maybe he rode an MX and you are talking about Champos arent you. there is probably a difference in power delivery.

hey Moto It’s Coleys’ and yes the mad professor had done a fair bit to it as well, but you gotta know it was a nighmare, and I don’t usually sao things like “intimidating power” as very few bikes have, but this thing has so much so he’s put the CR500 engine in it to tame it down.
Not saying a CR5 is a scary power, they are actually very usuable and torquey.

I stepped off my CRF450 onto a 06 TM250 and put it over the first berm I came to and that was the end of my ride on it. A mere 150 meters. They were fast meters though.
A bit to scary for me with no engine braking.
