arent they renowned for sh!tting cam chain tensioners??

id go with a solid disc too hatto, better wear rate and a little more feel in the pedal i reckon…..or solid with pretty holes

    Hey Hatto
Same thoughts as Menace  Was told that the solid discs, no holes, last longer in muddy conditions??? Thats what we run.

    Hey Hatto,

From what you are descibing it sounds like the cam chain tensioner is colapsing. Throw out your old OEM chain tensioner and replace it with one of these.

4T first thing I’d check if there is a new “noise” or feel to the engine is Camchain tensioner.

Been bitten before, the end result can be costly.

To straighten the disk I grab a thick black marker and a big arsed adjustable wrench aka “shifta”. Raise wheel, spin wheel, notice where pad scrapes, colour in the disk where you think it touches, spin wheel, if marker rubs away that’s where it touches. Utilise the wrench to bend disk a little without snapping it. Repeat until no more pad touches disk.

Thanks everyone for the replies, some good thing to work on here.

Finally got a chance to clean bike yesterday arvo, take bashplate off and find a rock, this may have been the noise because when riding after a wash, no noise was evident “Doh”

    cheers Hatto

HA HA   I had to laugh when I read this after all the technical gurus rack there brains out thinking it was a major issue and it turns out to be a bloody rock. At least you don’t have to worry about it now. I remember the sound of the xr when I put on the bashplate it made the noise bounce back from the crankcase B)
