My problem is the missus wants to go skiing this year in either NZ or in OZ , I can’t think of much worse than speeding out of control down a hill in a phycadelic spandex suit on a piece of timber.
So I have a cunning plan. Find out if their is any dirt bike tours near the snow feilds then nick off for a few days of riding ( minus spandex)!
Does anyone know or have experience of tours like this so when we book I can lean towards those areasany feedback will be much appreciated

May 9, 2010 at 6:28 am #178516The back side of the Alpine Way has some epic riding. Tom Groggin through to Kancobin. I don’t know if tour operators run that time of year but if they do you are pretty safe that you will not see any snow as it is low enough to rarley get it but it will be cold.
Tom Groggin is only about 40 mins out of Thredbo so someone here may know more or google it and the local operators name should come up. I remember reading in either ADB or Dirt Action a ride report from a winter ride they took last year.

STM your full of great advice today
May 9, 2010 at 6:52 am #178521A lot of the areas around Tom Groggin are closed in the winter months to preserve the trails and fauna

May 9, 2010 at 8:26 am #178515hi Nick.
maybe when you have some time check out this Vic. ‘snow ride’ thread
we rode there almost 12 months ago. where we rode is about 1/2 hour- 45 min from the snow fields (by road, not through the bush. and not from where we stayed just to clarify a little. if all that makes any sense :S )
May 9, 2010 at 8:39 am #178525Thanks for that link xy-transit I’m checking it out asap . Which snowfeilds is that near? Sorry for the ignorance but I’m not too up on the snow.

May 9, 2010 at 8:58 am #178527Thanks for that . Just had a read of the link you gave and that ride looked great. The missus wouldn’t even know I’d gone . Apart from the frost bitten fingers , that’s from riding not lifting stubbies of course!!
