So this morning I loaded the BRP on the trailer for the haul over to Bettye’s to have Fathead check my forks out and do a leaking fork seal, yes the seal may have taken up with a feeler gauge run around it but I thought that have been checked or stripped since the A4DE in 2006.
Upon arriving the lovely Lou, fatheads by far better half made me a cup of Joe and I started stripping the front end, I wanted to grease my steering head bearings so I ripped it apart,
firstly I found that the top nut on the triple clamp was loose. The day then started going downhill real fast, we stripped the left hand fork first and found that one of my upper? Market race springs had snapped the tip of the coil winding and this had proceeded to float around damaging anything in its path, it was a real mess, the oil looked like silver liquid paint
I was not a happy camper!! The drama I was thinking that we needed a top bush as it was rooted to say the least, I had been done this road in 2004 with my 600 forks, fathead just laughed called me a name like Butt F*#king hippy and waddled of only to come back with a box of bushes and he found one happy days. I then cleaned up all the parts, filed the damaged bits and pieces and we started the funniest afternoon of suspension assembly etc, may I add at this time fatheads suspension work should not be judged by my stupidity which resulted in a huge mess on the floor and up the wall. LOL
Steering head bearings repacked forks in, so adjustments on the clickers by fathead and out came the tape rear static height checked it was out and so was the sag, should be around the 100 to 105mm and it was 127mm, three turns on the nut and within spec. The ride height was my fault and should have been right before.
Fathead in action !!!!
So I am looking forward to the 30th of this month to give it a run, after explaining what he changed and now he recorded everything done we can change it a lot easier in the future.

August 12, 2008 at 2:35 am #106906First and foremost, the name is Battye’s Bikes, not Bettye’s.
Get it right, you Butt F#@king Hippy. The fantastic photography on your behalf has shown me two things.
1. Living in the fresh country air has made me grow extra Chins.
2. Your forks are the most abused items on any motorcycle I have had the pleasure of fondling.Love your work Track Bolt.
It was the most I’ve laughed in a long time. The one thing that concerns me is!
How can I spend 6 hours doing a suspension rebuild and only charge for 2???Batman
“now I know where fathead comes from” :woohoo:
PS: Don’t forget to thank Lou for the lunch.
She spent a good hour preparing those 6 sandwiches for you.PPS: You stink
August 12, 2008 at 8:16 pm #106960Yes I forget to mention that the lovely Lou made us lunch, do you like hot english mustard she said, yeah its ok, how do you like it she said oh how ever you put it on!
I should have listened to the road paving machine laying the 4 inch thick layer of hot english mustard (shit I think to myself after the first bite, english is the hot mustard)
After our lovely lunch and it was we returned to the workshop and the farting started, fathead was in form whick only started me of, it was very very funny afternoon
August 12, 2008 at 9:06 pm #106907Hey TB, I’ve been thinking, that the spring probably broke at YM, because if it had been floating around in there for very long you would probably seen more carnage inside the fork and piston.
As it turns out deciding not to ride on day 2 at YM may have worked in your favour??? Just a thought.August 13, 2008 at 7:05 am #106983micknmeld wrote:
