Ok I have redone this thread as I think I now know how to load pictures etc so here goes.
My XR650R was purchased from GHR which is the Honda factory appointed off road race team. The team had built it for the 2005 Australian Safari. The safari was never ran in 2005 so the bike just sat in workshop until I purchased it. I was told that they had spent over 100hrs building the bike and the cost including purchase cost of the bike and all the bits and pieces was over $28000.00. I didnt pay that much (who would?) I worked out to purchase a new XR650 and do the mods I wanted would cost me over $14000, so to buy this one with more mods than I could ever dream of for less then that I was happy as!
Firstly the bike as I got it
– Full Staintune system ( hand built by Staintune )
– HRC engine kit, kit contains HRC camshafts, primary drive change, Timing chain, Hi comp piston HRC components thru out the engine
– Head work Tekniks penrith
– Choke plate removed and carby rejetted ( have to tilt bike and flood to start when cold )
– Teknik motorsport did all the suspension work and built the engine
– MSC steering damper
– Vortex with two setting switch on the bars and 10 under seat setting
– Oversize front disc brake EBC– Braided front brake line (Goodridge)
– MSC top triple clamp allowing under bar damper mount, bars are over 2inches higher then standard– Ballards rear brake disc Fin
– Ballards alloy chain block protector
– S M Pro black rims
– Tee N Cee custom sticker kits
– Pro Taper Windham bend fat bars
– K&N air filters and Twin filters
– Unabiker radiator guards– Chain Gang sprocket and chain set (15 / 43 fast running)
– Stealth rear sprocket and chain set (14 / 48 for bush work)– Michelin Bib Mousse Tubes front
– Michelin heavy duty rear tube
– Michelin M12 tyres front and rear
– Michelin Desert rear 140/80 – 18– Trailtech speedo / trip meter
– CRF450x Trip meter for double checking distances when doing trail tours
– I have three fuel tanks for the bike one standard, a 16 litre and a mother of a 25/27 litreJuly 5, 2008 at 8:43 am #105106July 5, 2008 at 1:29 pm #105147Hey Mick how many pictures do you want??

The photos are from when we raced in the A4DE in 2006, trail rider mag did a feature article on us as trailriders doing the four day. Because we knew that trailrider was doing the storey on us we could get companys on board. Motul supplied oil, filter oil bike shine etc. Ross transport paid all the accommodation for 8 guys for 8 days, Local honda dealer help, wal on this site supplied a shipping container and compressor etc, Battye help with Fly gear and OXSTAR boots, It was the best week, I will upload photos if you would like tommorrow has I am out not on my laptop
July 6, 2008 at 5:47 am #105109It burnt??? Spewing!!! How did they treat him as far as getting the bike replaced?
Did trairider supply you with a PDF of the article? I would like to see that.July 6, 2008 at 8:50 am #105158Yes it was in the shop having some work done, they rang said it was ready, he said he would pick it up the next day and the workshop burnt that nite!
It was a trick 400, it had HRC engine kit, oversize brakes, steering damper, full staintune system, mousse tubes , braided brake lines etc.
They came good and paid the agreed amount so all good.As far as the 4 day goes, no they didnt give us a PDF but I could scan it and make a PDF from it
July 30, 2008 at 10:27 am #105159Some updates for the BRP
Chain gang sprocket set, not cheap but if I get the 6,000 to 8,000kms they reckon I will they would be worth it, I have two complete sets depending on where I rideThe cold air intake I mentioned in another thread
I have fitted some fork bleeders, levers rotaters and been trying to sort the jetting out, it has always popped on the over run at high rpm’s but since the cold air intake its worse, this means its to lean.
I have removed the 68s pilot screw (low speed) and fitted a 72, I also fitted a 220 main jet but have since gone back to a 205 but I have a flat spot on snap reving although you dont often snap from idle, I will keep fiddling with the mixture (slow speed screw and see what comes of that.
Cheers TB
