Just an update, the boys spent Australia day at Dargo pub and are now headed east toward Buchan (never heard of it) It is about 60km north of Lakes Entrance.
No other major dramas that I know of.

No sooner did I post the above post I recieved a call from TB. They are headed to Jindabyne to camp by the Lake tonight.
Of the group that started out there are only 5 left. A couple of guys have pulled the pin for various family reasons.
They have been tackling some monsterous hills today and are at the Buchan pub having a few lemonades before heading off on the last part of today’s ride.
They fitted new tyres at Dargo after TB only got 1300kms out of his back tyre and Nick is now running full MX tyres on the Beemer.
All going well the boys should be in Sydney late Sunday arvo.

Just got a call from TB, they are at Hampton pub after travelling 630kms today, of which only 90kms was black top. He sounded knackered and was seriously in the need of a rum or two. Tomorrow sees them head out to Bathurst and the Bridal Trail before finishing the ride in Blaxland tomorrow evening.

A few things about ADV riding is have a plan  , don’t set destinations until later in the day ;) , the ride can only travel as fast as the slowest in your group B) , if it’s a navigation ride everyone needs a GPS if they are riding and they need to look at the GPS :pinch: (yes I did over shoot an intersection by 4 kms  ), never take track advice from a grinning local at the pub  , and when used the corner man system is only as good as the knuckle head on the corner!

So we left home on time, meet Lefty at the local servo for the run to Windsor (the start) we fuelled in Windsor and rode around the corner to see Boulder and Fish waiting. We the waited for the 7am start time taking bets on how late Steve, Andy and Glen would be. I think Nick won as they were only 12mins late. We left and as seen in Lefty’s video Nick, Dejay and I turned left while the next group led by Steve missed the first corner. Everyone settled into the ride and we motored up through Mt Lagoon to Bilpin. As we arrived at the intersection Nick yells out on the Bluetooth that the Tenere was making a noise, and it was one hell of a squealing noise when the clutch was engaged. So quickly the bike was laid on its side and the clutch cover removed, there is a whole thread he about what happened then so I will get on with the RR.

Jason Barrett was rang and he flew straight down and picked up Nick and the broken Tenere. At Jason’s shed was Steve’s (ADV moto) BMW 800 or the flying Barverin coffee machine as it would become known during the next 5 or so days. We followed Jason and soon we were all getting the BMW ready to go to the Vic. The racks were refitted, Nick’s GPSs fitted, the battery swapped over with one in Jason’s shed and soon enough Nick and the BMW were ready to roll.

Jason hard on the job, what a legend!

We took off now well behind schedule; we rode on with routes going through my mind and where and when we should pick up the blue line again. The blue line was the route as such we were to follow. I decided to short cut down the railway service track from Bell towards Mt Vic, then drop into Hartley Valley across and up Cox’s river on the dirt to Hampton. From Hampton we rode a mixture of dirt and black top to Oberon. We stopped and had some Jack Links, fuelled and left Oberon out to Edith where we rejoined the “blue line”. So the navigation ride restarts and we split into two groups. I lead and called the track because of the dust while Nick checked navigation with Dejay, all three of us were linked through the new Bluetooth’s. Steve led the second group with Lance and Andy. Boulder and Fish swept the rear, both the boulder boys had GPSs. Fast dirt roads in the pine forest was the order and we started making a good mile, we had done a series of left and rights and travelled through an area we used last year when I thought we should regroup. We waited, and waited but it seems we had lost the second group? Then all of a sudden Andy fronts up on his own, he didn’t have a GPS and had some how ended up I the middle. So we back tracked to last regroup, we searched all intersections for tracks and basically spent an hour and a half mucking around. Finally we rode on thinking they can navigate, they know we are heading for Gunning and they have the Boulders with them. We leap frogged a section again to make up time and turned into the Abercrombie National park. The track here is a fire road / twin track that is one of the best around, it’s the sort of track that when completed you want to turn around and ride straight back, at the end of the big downhill is a hippie camp and a creek crossing

We explored a track we had seen last year but ended up in farmer’s house paddock, so we then rode dirt all the way to Tuena Pub where a quick roadie was needed

Here we heard from Steve, I had left a message earlier when we had phone range letting him know we would see them in Gunning and that we had Andy. We rode fast dirt roads all the way to Gunning, well within 14kms of Gunning before we slabbed it in…

    More later

Day 3 started with clear skies and we all packed up camp and headed to Corryong . After a quick bacon & egg roll we hit the dirt and started our run to Mount Pinnabar , the roads were great fun and the scenery very spectacular. Tb and DJ lead , I was dropping corner men and the ride was flowing nicely.

As with all good adventure rides it’s not too long before you hit a challenge and ours came in the shape of Mount Pinnabar !!! We rounded a corner and TB shouted to wait at the bottom and hold the group as the hill in front was steep and covered in loose apple size rocks !! TB made the second erosion mound and started to loose traction and momentum but safes a fall by turning into the bush. DJ made it about 10 meters past TB and also went bush to save a drop. Boulder and I walked up the hill to help TB and DJ bulldog the bikes down to a safe place for them to ride. Once walking the hill it became clear I would struggle getting the BMW up their with road tyres and Lance would have a big challenge with the Tiger. After a discussion and some remapping we decided bike preservation was a priority this far in and we started back down the hill.

We rode more great trails and I had fun on some twisty tar to our next fuel stop. The decision was made then to head to Omeo which we did on some trails which climbed a huge mountain and gave us a break boiling downhill at the end. Lance came past me on the Tiger and it seemed to handle being jumped off erosion mounds very well , whereas my poor Beemer was finding the bump stop on every landing !!!

Once at Omeo Lance broke the news that he had to leave for Sydney due to family illness and Steve needed to get back too , Andy and Glen went with them so it was down to 5 old bulls!!

We headed up to Hotham Heights and took a mountain track with huge drops down into Dargo where we hired a house for the night and hit the pub.
Dargo Dan remembered us from last year and was keen to help us get the bikes fixed up for the second half of the trip ;)

We ended up having a big night at the pub knowing we didn’t have an early start and saw Australia day though to the very end :woohoo:

Day 4 we all woke up a bit dusty and headed off to Dargo Dans workshop. I fitted some MX tyres to the big Beemer as rain was predicted and TB already needed a new rear tyre after trashing his in a bit over 1000 km.

We left Dargo and headed up the mountain again carrying a really good pace and made our way to Swifts Creek , after some good dirt to Ensey we got to my highlight track of this ride. We navigated by map and made our way to Buccan , it was tight twin trail with up hills equal in steepness only to Bellingen . The BMW with new rubber managed to keep my chosen lines as we balanced our way up rutted tracks in what seemed like a mountain roller coaster. For almost 3 hours we climbed and climbed then came the descents, some with 10+ ruts and no defined line but we all emerged the other ended whooping and upright. !!

After a beer at Buccan we made good time along dirt roads to Jindabyne where DJ put us onto an awesome camp spot right on the lake.  We only just made camp before dark and with a fire burning and beers flowing we talked about the perfect adventure riding day we’d just had. :)
