The format for this event is taken from the MTB model which has and continues to be massively successful. You can take it as seriously or as casually as you want. Unlike a traditional event that can be intimidating to the average punter this style event is very inclusive. I wish I could be there but unfortunately I can’t get to Batemans for that weekend but if you can make it I am super keen to hear how it goes. If it proves as popular as it has in the MTB world then you can expect to see plenty more of these events in the future.

    STM

As STM has stated this is a very good format and is used for everything from 4 – 24 hour endurance racing in MTB.

My only concern for this event, with dirt bikes 10km is the relativey short loop. This is about what we use for MTB. For dirt bikes this is going to mean very short lap time and depending on the number of bikes running that will be a lot of laps over a 12 hours period. How well will a 10km loop hold up to that type of abuse from dirt bikes? Has the potential to become a 10km rut.

    My thoughts exactly :S

Although in saying that,I was really suprised to see how little evidence there was of 40 bikes doing the poker run loops.

In our pony express we find that for 100 bikes+ (so around 60 on the track at any one time) you need 20km minimum to keep it safe/enjoyable and even then it is hell if dusty. Most of our tracks are around 25km and they deteriorate considerably over the 4 hours. We don’t so much get ruts except when wet or in the sand but more braking/accelarating bumps, deep dust powder. It gets bloody hard on the body with bumps in 4 hours so a shorter track for longer means worse track conditions.

The soil down there may be better and hold up better. Heffo knows bikes, racing and the area so I would be surprised if it really went to the pack as it sounds like an event they are trying to get the average punter involved in.

Personally I prefer longer laps. More time to get your rhythm and a longer break between laps. You get a better rest and more chance of getting any repairs down before you really piss your partner off by making him do another lap.

The ground and area is supreme, will be held where 400 bikes do the apex rides, we did the south loop of the apex last, after 250-300 bikes had been through and tracks were still great, but was a 60km loop- pretty sure heffo will have it sussed.

Can do more than 1 loop if you want before changing

I will put the feelers out at a bbq on Sat, could be a south coast orange team or 2

    Righto Gents,

No promises just yet but it looks like myself, Blue, House and a couple of others may be making the trip down for this grand event. Not sure if we can put a dent on team red and team oranges prospects. Hell, I’m not even sure whether we are going to form a 2, 3 or 4 man team but I reckon it’s going to be a good challenge.

Spoke with Heffo today and it sounds alright. Hopefully I will get to meet a few of you there.

Capt. furious and I have entered a 2 man team. Not sure if we’ll make it to the end but we’ll have fun trying. :woohoo:

Time to go find a 10km loop and go round and round for a few hours. :silly:
