Bugger, I was hoping you’d bring the wheels and tank up for me that weekend. Plus some tyres for the Scrappers.

As it turned out, what an awesome day!

Due to the drizzling rain, during the morning, the meeting looked in jeopardy as apparently oiled tracks and water don’t mix, as we saw a few people try the track out when it was wet on quads with mixed results. I don’t think I would like to even try to walk on the track when it was wet!

After arriving at 10.20 am we waited patiently until at least 1 o’clock before they sent the quads out to dry the track. The waiting wasn’t that bad as there were plenty of things going on and plenty of people to talk to. I caught up with a few Old bulls as well as several people I haven’t seen in years!

There was a huge crowd in attendance and everyone was in the right frame of mind to enjoy them selves. While we waited for the track to dry the place took on a party atmosphere.

After a big night on Friday night, a very dusty Toes got himself a front row seat and didn’t move for the whole day, if he had a crochet rug and a thermos, he would still be sitting there I think.

AS well as the racing there was heaps of other stuff going on like this mad bugger in this blown 350 Chev powered Corolla.

When they finally made it out onto the track the flat trackers are awesome to watch and the racing was bar banging madness.

Here is Toby Price and Chris Hollis getting up close .

The main race is what every one went to see and we weren’t disappointed!

The heats were great to watch and Bayliss looked for all money that he was going to be unbeatable but as the other blokes got their mojo, he was relegated to mid-field in most of his heats.

To decide who was to go into the main race they did a timed shoot out were every rider did one hot lap and the 10 fastest plus 2 wild card entries would go to the final. This is where some of the big names were eliminated, Chris Hollis crashed on his hot lap and didn’t make the final and I don’t think Steve Gall made it through just to name a few.

One of the wild card entries was Mick Kirkness from Wauchope, he had the fastest lap time of the day and that got him into the main race. Mick is no stranger to the flat track scene after spending 3 years in America racing on a XR750 Harley.

We were sharing a Quick shade with Mick’s mum and sister on the hill so the anticipation of the main race was great!

Kirkness got the holeshot and the Wauchope contingent were cheering their heads off as it looked as though no one would catch mick but on the second lap Bayliss crashed and was laying on the track so the race was red flagged and had to be restarted.

In the restart Kirkness didn’t get as a good a start as the first one and was relegated to 3rd coming into the first corner. The racing was fast and furious as Mick tried his hardest to get into the front, he managed to round up the two riders in front and it was obvious from there that all he had to do was stay on the bike to win the night, he ended up crossing the line in front by several bike lengths.

As you can imagine the Wauchope crew went off! Cheering our local boy on!

The Troy Bayliss Cup final results,
    1st Michael Kirkness,
    2nd Troy Herfoss,
3rd Jarryd Oram and Troy Bayliss picked up 4th.

For us that toped a great day off and at about 11pm we headed off after watching another 8 races. What a great day out, $20 well spent!

Here is some scratchy video I found on Youtube of the main race.
