I was wondering if anyone has seen or used the TUbliss tyre system ? It looks like a great idea and allows you to run very low pressures for riding sand ( or Bellingen!)

    Hi NickJ

Talk to Kram I think he runs his Husky on that system, I remember him talking about at Micks B-Day ride as you say to run low pressures when he was doing the pony express rides.Because he was allways getting flats with tubes.

Ballards have been selling them in 21 and 19 for maybe two years? At least 18 months, the benefit as I see it would be reduced un sprung mass, hence the 19 for the motocross guys bouncing through the whoops. I asked around if any of the enduro guns were using them and some had tested but liked the extra protection a mouse tube gives.

Ollie and maybe Mal5.1 have been looking into them I think  My only question is the integrity of a tyre being used as tubeless when its not designed as a tubeless tyre.

I wish someone would try one that I know so I can see how they go

I recently purchased a pair for the DRZ as the last two big Old Bulls rides I went on I got flats :S

I have been on one 140km ride (6.5hrs) with Merv in the Woomargarma NP and SF last weekend as we were working on the Woomargama bypass. It rained all Saturday night for our Sunday ride :cheer: No dust :cheer:

I ran 11 psi rear and 10psi front in greasy red clay and got the best traction i’ve ever had on a wet ride :) Parts of the ride had some rocky sections which sprung up on you and I just ploughed over them with a bang and a crash and no flats :) There were also the usual logs across tracks which I attacked without fear (of a flat anyway) :P

I have also riden round our back paddock over logs and the few rocks that are in the gravel road. I wasn’t going to post about the tubliss system until I had put a few more k’s on them, but I’ll let you all know if I have any problems ;)

Also when fitting the front when I pumped up the tyre it had a hole  Put a tyre plug in it and away I went with no leaks since B)

That brings up a good point then Adam, if you are running them you need a tubeless tyre repair kit. But what happens if you get a tear in the casing, guess you woud need to carry a spare tube just in case.

I carry tyre plugs and the needle to insert them and still carry patches incase of a side wall problem that a plug won’t fix. I also still carry a tube at the moment as I want to see how the system goes for a while yet.

    Thanks Adam
That’s the feedback I was after , someone that had tested them on a few surfaces. It’s more about the lower tyre pressures for me rather than not getting flats but that’s a huge bonus, and it sounds like they’re good for both.

I think I’ll get a set for my DRZ first then try the Tenere later .

    Cheers

Two of my mates have just started running tubliss. One raced at Uralla in the rocks and swears by it. The other got a flat at bike territory the other day. Slashed tyre. Was on an old tyre though. Good news was we road around 15-20km to get home including a couple of hard hill climbs and the tyre held up fine flat. You could still tell youe were riding with a flat (front) but much better than if it was a tube and the tyre comes of the rim.

If you’re carrying a sare tube make sure ou put the rear rim lock in too or the tube won’t last long.

I did another 140k’s Friday and Saturday at Wingello SF.

Travelled all over the place still running 10psi front and 11psi rear. Ripped a couple of knobs off the front on some of the rocky hills but other than that no problems. :)

    Nick,

I’m running Dunlops at the moment, D742FA front and D952 rear.

Looking at Pirelli’s at the moment as the front has 1990 k’s and is in need of replacement. The rear has 1080 k’s. I’ll definately change the front before the Bday ride and will depend on how many rides I get in before the Bday ride for the rear.

Im fitting a $9000 Strapon toolbox to the back of the xl at the moment.
I had to replace the rear shock with a piece of wood, just hope Merv doesn”t try to set it on fire!.

I fitted a set of Tubliss to Sam’s new KTM prior to the Ourimbah ride and ran into a problem

The rear bladder (little tube) that came in the kit had a fault :( The valve stem to tube area leaked :(

I took a photo (see below) and emailed it to the Tubliss HQ on the Saturday and by Wednesday I had a reply from Head Office and a replacement bladder in the post from the Australian distributer :)

    Now thats service ;)

Anyways the front tyre being second hand leaked :( however I read somewhere that the rimlock can indent the tyre wall making it hard to get a seal

So I read the kit instructions and it said if the tyre is damaged in the sealing area use a smear of silicone to fill the imperfections, let set for 24hrs and should be good to go ;) And it was :cheer:

So now we have two kits and will see how things go :)

We had no problems on the Ourimbah ride, well with tyres anyway :P

I had fitted a Pirelli MX extra to the front running at 8psi as recommended by Hatto and still 11psi rear, and Sam had 10psi in his Metzler 6 days front and 8 – 9psi in the new rear Perilli MX Extra ;)

    The bladder fault

Will see how they travel on the Bday ride :woohoo:
