    Hey All,

After the hillend ride and feeling like I was killing the WR250 on the transport sections, I started to do some investigating, guys on TT are saying they are getting 85-90mph top speed which by my calculations is about 130-140kms, I’m not interested in going that quick but I was lucky to be pulling 90kms fully pinned 5th gear. So I would like a little more, I’m running 14-52 gearing which was great in the tighter stuff and twin trail etc. One thing I have noticed is that the Dealer have fitted a 130 tyre on the rear when really it should be a 100-110. Would this larger tyre affect top speed, would fitting the correct size 100-110 tyre make any difference to top speed.

    Cheers
    Chris.

Tyre size(130 compared to a 110) will only effect speed in a minor way, change the rear to a 48 and see what goes:laugh: :) :P

Yeah I think I’ll get a 48 for the longer rides and the 52 for the single track stuff, I still can’t work out how those guys are saying their getting 135kph out of the 250 with stock gearing.

    Cheers
    Chris.

Difference Chris is that those guy are riding along at 8,000rpm and screaming the little things, and you are riding along at 5,000rpm and thinking you are screaming it as you baby your bike wheres they more than likely dont, 2nd when some talks about speed, believe done of what you hear and only half of what you see.

Daves right tyre will make less that buggar all difference

Change your rear sprocket mate as other’s have mentioned :) Tyre will only make a difference to speed when the overall diameter is increased. Like changing 15″ to 18″ wheels on your car. The difference between the two tyre profiles you mention in terms of outer diameter is next to fark all and therefore I doubt you’d even notice any difference at all.
