The Dakar I just bought has Anakees on it front and rear. I note that they are standard fitment on the new 650/800gs as well.

They are about 90% new I reckon. I need to do 1000km bitumen and then 500km roughly on the dirt to the corner and then turn around and do the same on the way home so 3000km all up.

Do you think these tyres will make it and be suitable?

They look fairly road oriented to me.
Does anyone know if they ‘ll be OK heading out to the corner from Bourke ?
I guess I have the option of fitting nobbies maybe Metzeler Karoo T’s or something similar at Bourke but is it really necessary ?
    Any advice appreciated.

    Trev,
I ran a set of Anakees on my V strom for a solid 25000 ks, they were well and truly stuffed at the end however I did a lot of highway road ks (I think 90% tar 10% dirt) and rode across the bridle track, and several other off road adventures in that time, I loved em they hang on well and seem to resist punctures reasonably well.. You’ll do it easy on them IMHO

Thats awesome news. 25000 km? Thats a shitload of travelling….Hard to imagine they could last that long. Thanks for the advice.

Try Mitas E-07 on the rear and a Dunlop D606 on the front. I would go that way for the trip you intend to do. I have done it a few times and would recomemend a knobby on the front in the sand. Rear you can get away with.

Mitas – E09 on the rear will offer great traction and out wear the others, good side walls. punture resistant and do hook up as well. Front would go a Michelin Desert, Sutto’s have them on special at the moment. The desert is designed for it, grips well and wears well

IMO and from testing in all conditions

Thanks guys. There are so many choices out there.
Anyone suggest a good tyre shop in Bourke to get some nobbies fitted?
I know I could buy them at Suttos but that means carting them out on the back of my bike?
I want to use up the Anakees that are on the bike now on the bitumen….
