Trelleborg and Mitas tyres you can get direct from Motorcyletyres P/L

I have used them a few times great service, fast delivery and I got them cheaper than my local dealer could sell them for

thanks fellas, thats all as clear as mud:laugh:

the terrain i ride is 90% hard pack (hard as buggery)and chunky rocks. the other 10% is shallow, loose marbly type stuff, which believe it or not, gives more traction when its wet. it seems to clag together. but when dry it can be like riding on a bed of 6mm ball bearings…..great fun!:silly:

i used to use dunny D752’S (i think) (substance abuse had taken that memory away:P ), on the front, and whatever was cheap and available on the bum. that was on my TT350 though.

the Kato 300, seems to wheelspin a touch more!
sorry TB, i have a throttle control absence valve fitted to my brain:woohoo:

whats the diff between a m12 and an s12, i know its compound but which ones harder. since ive nearly forgotten what rain is, being in vic. im looking for the harder one, i think.

i dont believe money is an object when it comes to front wheel sureness, as the way i ride, being a hack, i put a lot of trust in front end stability. am i better to go a soft compound front or will this just tear knobs off.

    hmmmmm…..

as for carlsbad’s, ive had mates that ride with them. they reckon theyre ok, but these blokes ride on the slower side, usually in a flanno shirt and jeans and blundstones. rednecks might be the word for them.
personally, the only place id put them is on a pitbike!

anyway, what about trials tyres (on rear) anyone given them a crack.

i think i’ll scout the local bike shops and see whats around then i’ll throw a few choices at ya’s and see what everyone reckons.

    thanks for all you’ses input…

Hey TB did i read somewhere that you tried a Recross retread on the back, if so how did it go?

Dont get him started ! He reckons he only got 350 k’s out of the rear on the MX retread. I have been using them for more than 5 years and always get at least 1000 k’s out of a rear I ride mainly single track rough shit. I have a few bikes and so price is a major factor for me,so much so I became a dealer.I think they are a good tyre and are perfect for trail riders and for $80 each you can try it and if you dont like it next time pay $130 and still get something you dont like:dry: When I was racing Metzeler MC5 were great. I had a lot of success with the Trelleborg Trackmasters although the knobs were prone to flying off I was running a Husky WR430 at the time:woohoo:

I know TB will comment on my comments but like he said everyone has a different opinion. I like em and have plenty of repeat customers to keep them ticking over.;)

Yeah I tried a free front and I paid for a rear, the both used with Mousse tubes which give you a tyre pressure of around 13psi, should be the best for spread, surface area and grip.

The front is good, lots of knob flex when new on hard pack, but once you are used to it its ok, the tyre wears ok and stops the knob flex, the front has done between 400 and 450 kilometres, the next 3 day ride will see it out. At around $70 buck each I am not sure an will have to re run a starcross to check but I think I would expect around 1800 kilometers from a starcross 3 Michelin, Crash may remember how many miles to expect, at $120 odd dollars its better value.

The rear I paid for has only done 350 to 380 kilometers its rooted, its to soft, the knobs dont rip of will give it that, but thats because its so soft. The traction in the wet at the Watagans was bad and the dry hard pack worse. If you want a cheap tyre yeah ok maybe but you get what you pay for. You can only get one pattern and one compound

Ollie the tyre is on the bike and will be at Wauchope for you and all to see, I am running it out on friday, I feel I have done enough to make a fair comment and have done enough over the years to have some idea, maybe you are biased because you sell them, or dont ride hard enough to work them hard enough? I will also bag IRC’s and give an honest opinion on anything good or bad

Look I tried to stay out of this at the start but my name was mentioned else where so I had my say, yes I would recommend a Michelin Starcross 3, think its a MH3, Crash will know or Chicken maybe, little better than a M12 front, but they do chip a little where a M12 front Michelin wont.
Maybe you could try a retread, they are ok and cheaper, I have tried to get people to use them but they worry about front retreads, speed or heat hasnt worried mine, I did over 150kph on a 36 degree day into hillend and it didnt fly apart. Just a thought.

(I dont sell them or have any affiliation with Michelin or the distributor its just this mugs thought)
