I’m a fan of Michilen UHD, never had a flat on one. Last time I fitted tyres to the RMX I could only get a Vee rubber for the front so at the moment I have Michilen in rear and Vee rubber in front.

You can feel the difference when comparing them side by side, the Michy is thicker. That being said I run the front on the RMX at 10psi everywhere and not had a flat (touch would) even after a couple ride in the Sunny Corner loam.

As a bit of extra insurance – try using tyre slime – green stuff you get from repco or super cheap 1 litre does 4 tubes ;)

I tried this stuff once. All it did is when I got a flat it filled the inside of my tyre with green goopy shit.

It good for up to 6mm Holes like pinch flats or a nail etc Not good for tears or worse. Havnt had a puncture since I started using it. (touch wood)

Hey I just reread what you wrote, if you haven’t had a flat how do you know it’s worked? Or have you found where it has sealed?

    Thanks

yep several  I wouldnt recommend it if it wasnt any good B)

I used the Slime on a rear tube last year , I had no flats for the life of the tyre. When I changed the tyre however the tube had green slime in one area I cleaned it back and sure enough , a small pinch !! So it worked that time and I have no idea how long it had held on ??

I was disappointed in the mousse tube I had but enjoyed the first few rides as it gives confidence on rougher terrain but to only get 4 1/2 months was a shame. I’ll take TBs word for it that it was the lube as it was my first mousse so I don’t know but if I was to get another one I’d go for the better brands as anything else seems false economy.

I used the Michy UHD tubes and have never had a flat. I even hit a rock at speed (TB saw it) which kartwheeled me off the bike and it still held up despite my rim being dented!

I have run the Michy mousses and am a mousse convert. They offer unrivalled rim protection and peace of mind. I find the fitting hit and miss though. Fitting the Kenda Washougal rear Sat was tougher than I would have liked but it went on, this is more than I can say for the Dunlop MX51 front which I was expecting to be easy. It’s sat in the garage as I couldn’t fit it with the new Techno mousse!

I ran a 80/100 mousse in a 90/100 tyre for 1100Km’s and the mousse is now too soft to use whole and will need packing. It has been replaced with a new mousse now though.

The rear Michy looked fine and appears to be up for many more miles service. I use Michy mousse lube, I buy it when placing an RMATV order, it’s only $2.50 per tube so I just buy 10 tubes at a time.

I also add a bit of cooking oil into the tyre to get it all properly slimey. I have tried the Castrol rubber grease but it’s thick, very messy and hard to apply so I will stick with the Michy lube.

Just changed a couple of tyres and thought I would ask if anyone else has what sounds like little balls of rubber floating around inside their UHD tubes?

Its been like that for a long time now and doesn’t seem to affect anything, maybe just the wheel balance when riding at speed on the tarmac.

Yes the tube I holed with the railway service spike at the 2009 birthday ride had been in 3 bikes and done 40k plus had three balls in it all larger than golf balls  The real rubber tubes do it. Ultra heavy duty tubes lose their air pressure slowly as well because of the real rubber used in them so remember to keep an eye on the pressures boys
