Ok, so I sound a busted rear spoke the other day, pulled off the wheel and after studying the how to tyre change vids  had the thing apart in no time, ordered the A set spoke blah blah blah… What got my attention is that when I pulled the tube out I found it was an “ULTRA HEAVY DUTY” that looked as though it stayed partially inflated (that is it kept its shaped) it was larger than the true ruber heavy duty jobby from Ballards AND!!! it seems to have 3 or 4 small ball bearings, or little pieces of an old valve or something inside.
So my question is does this sound kosher or is it a bit fruity???
Also to note, the tyre was rock solid felt like a good 15psi, when I checked the gauge was telling me 8!!!

Any one with any insider knowledge?

I only ever use the ultra heavy duty tubes and they do appear more inflated than the gauge sometimes reads , I too think this is a tyre thing !
Even after Bigger Al let mine down to 8 psi on the Bello ride I had max traction and avoided pinch flats on rocks and roots. They are a trail riding essential IMO :)

Just trying to get the right ones I believe there are 3x types: Standard tube , Heavy duty, and Ultra heavy duty. What is the approximate cost of Ultra heavy duty , $80.00 to $120.00 ???

I saw one at Motorcycle supermarket accessories and can’t remember the price but know it was about 5 times more than a standard tube. I guess the spare tube to carry should be a standard one to keep the weight down ??? Due for a tyre change on the Berg and will check to see what’s in them —- Great balls of fire !!!

$120 would be a Mouse tube. White Rocket is right; you should not have to pay more than $40.

Used to get the Viper H/D tubes from Tecknik’s think under $40,a faulty guage got one killed, harder to change though, like double a ballards h/d tube,in thickness.

Think i saw Ballards doing mooses for $129 in the last catalogue. At that price could be worth trying them out.If i always rode at Sunny Corner i would get one.

    G’day All been a while!!!

    My vote for H.D:)
unless you can justify the cost of running Mousse of course, and there is a bit on ‘maintenance’ to preform with mousse.

H.D tubes but the trick is NATURAL rubber and installing with baby powder, Johnson is best cause of the high talc content, however some ‘ladyboys’ my like a scented one!!!:P

That is how I Roll’ and riding the ‘rock garden’ of the Corner that ain’t so sunny i rarely encounter any problems.

    My 2c worth!

Agree with above post, apart from the ladyboy talc. I use mans cure-rash talc…..

I have never run a mousse but at $120 its a possibility. However as tyres wear out so quickly I couldnt be bothered with the hassel. A properly fitted quality heavy duty tube is good enough. Not real hard to fix a pinch flat anyway.
Dont use nuts on your tubes, ever. Use talc. Use quality tube. Increase pressure for rocks. Use a rim band/tape. Dont expect someone else to carry the tools for you to fix a flat.
The other thing is, always change your tyres with the tools in your bumbag so you are used to using them.

Yep Ultra HD tubes are the go. I think I was running the Vee Rubber as well only because that what my local shop supplies. I don’t remmebr having a flat in the 2 or 3 years I had it. I used to run 8 or 10 psi at Sunny Corner.

I now have mousse tubes front and back. :)

Totally agree with you there Jimmy, I run the valve nut but up against the cap.
