Interesting to see how quickly people jump on the “you should never ride on your own” line. Riding motorcycles through the bush at speed is fraut with danger which is why the general population think most of us are crazy.

Everytime you are pinning it down a sweet piece of singletrack up on the pegs and on the edge we are at our happiest. We are also putting ourselves into a dangerous situation that sometimes can turn bad. If I only went riding when I had someone to go with I would not ride anywhere near as much as I do, but I accept the risk of riding as an acceptable compromise of the enjoyment it gives me. If we only planned for the worst we would never ride, drive or fly. Everybody on this site relates to each other becauase we love the thrill that riding gives us.

Is riding on your own more dangerous? Potentially yes. So is not wearing body armour, neck braces or proper boots but people do it. I personally will accept the added risk rather than not ride and anyone who makes the same decisoion should be respected to do so at their own risk.

Hey AB I noticed you edited the above post. For the record I thought what you said was fine, it was your opinion and was OK. I am sure you didnt upset Mick if that was your worry mate

I was more concerned that I had upset someone else, as opposed to me being upset.

Life is full of “what if” or “if only” moments. WE take the risk of encountering one of those moments every day of our lives. “What if” he had someone with him to do CPR, the outcome may have been different, maybe not, who knows? That is way life’s dice roll and all we can do is try and minimise the risks which isn’t always easy to do in our sport as there are many things that can go wrong.

I am a fine one to condemn people for riding alone, I quite regularly ride to the top of Bago on my own, to take in the view and contemplate the world. With that comes a risk of encountering a “what if”.

I edited my post to remove any trace of it because I didn’t want people reading that. Not that it was horrible, but it wasn’t nice and going by mick’s reaction he agreed that it was a mistake so I was happy to let him reverse his mistake. Leaving an obvious trace to what was said would’ve been hypocritical on my part.

I had actually typed up a lengthy response and never posted it because it doesn’t belong in an RIP thread. Hope that doesn’t sound too precious or holier than though but I know if it were me that died up there I wouldn’t want a bunch of strangers arguing over whether it was my fault for riding alone :(
