Well what a day !
Woke up this morning thinking this is going to be a good day ! Arriving at uralla I notice something …. the soil has about 0% moisture … well it could be worse
Going out on the sight lap … haha sight … that’s funny … anyway out on the feel lap cruising around getting a feel for the track ( which I must say was a cracker ) I notice more and more rocks appearing … I don’t mind rocks but they aren’t normal rocks … loose, sharp dirty rocks .. oh yay
After the feel lap making sure I had 20psi in the tyres its time to go racing, which I knew you had to get the hole shot on otherwise your race is done … flag drops and the bike started first kick .. yay I’m in 3rd ! Nek minute hello dust … doing my best pace with no sight bam I’m in 5th … some people have no fear … after setting into a grove I start the catch up game … lap 3 I find myself back in 3rd thanks to not having a pit stop .. a quarter of the way around the track I catch a rider … in a different class … do you think they would let me past? Of course not .. now it was too soon in the race to be making silly moves but I was on this guys arse hoping he would pull over .. nope … I chewed dust for nearly a lap before he fell off … oh what a shame … nek minute I’m off!! Someone dug up one hell of a rock and isn’t it my luck to hit it ! Over the hangers I go … after struggling to get around the slower rider 2 ironman had caught me … hello 5th … hello dust
I flew for another 3 laps before stopping for fuel and bam … I hit the wall and I start feeling this thing called pain … I battled on for an hour and a half to complete 9 laps in total and come 5th in ironman, 1 lap off the pace of 1st and 2nd … must say after I thought about it I didn’t do too bad
Big learning curve today realising my suspension needs to be softer so the last hour and a half isn’t so brutal ! Also better starts would help …
So next round sees us off to bike territory .. bring it on !April 7, 2013 at 8:35 am #239174Great read their Rookie , felt like I was their without the talent to be 5 th in ironman
Sounds like a top day and very good result

April 7, 2013 at 9:01 am #239175Well done mate. While at work today I was wondering how you got on. I reckon you did great. That track sucks in the dust. We used to laugh about the gorillas in the mist(rocks in the dust waiting to take you out). Great run down on your event thanks for posting.
April 7, 2013 at 9:11 am #2391769 laps in Iron, awesome effort.
Took Geoff and we only had the 450 just to have some fun. Geoff did the sighting lap and came back to report a bit dusty and rocky. I lined up in B grade with no idea what I was about to face but as luck would have it I left last in the group after 3 or 4 kicks of the old girl.
Managed to catch up to one dude but the dust made it impossible to get close and with no idea where I was going I settled in to learn the course. 2/3 of the way round I had two C Grades go flying past on a hot lap.
After 6 laps together we were averaging just under 30 mins a lap so it was decided to take our last two laps slow so we didn’t have to do lap 9 but Geoff came in 5 min too early so I sent him out again.
Had a absolute ball of a time and loved the track more as they day went on.
No idea where we came but who cares.
April 7, 2013 at 9:12 am #239183Good job mate!
I backed of my compression by two clicks on my last two laps at the 12 hour and it definitely helped. Can’t wait to hear from your next round.

Haha think I remember someone struggling at the start of b grade, mate I know what your saying about what have I got myself into haha
I managed a low 25minute lap and a few around there … but it fell apart by the end and clocked a 40minute lap hahaWas thinking about backing the compression off 2-3 clicks on both front and back just to stop the jarring
