im really tired after a big weekend of riding, drinking and laughing.
here is a couple of pics just to show we did find some snow:laugh:
mickP, tobes, bob and choppa
man, my heated grips were great, just need to invent “lever heaters” now:laugh:
i will do a full report after a nap.
my head is aching…..
…something to do with drinking excessively:side:
there you go boys, its started, post away;)
August 31, 2009 at 6:24 am #150615Made it home in one piece.
like some tired, and 1 of a select group a bit battered:blush:
BIG Thanks to Meace for organising the ride.
Big Thanks to JAK and Gob for riding sweep and pushing duties!
and for their tips on gaining victory over most of the hills!
thanks to the Old Bull members for their understanding attitude when having to wait for us (me) to catch up!
i too will have an R’n’R session before posting in more detail.August 31, 2009 at 6:26 am #150616On the Sunday me and xy-transit went for a ride on our own, as the other boys in the photo were going to Jamieson for lunch. We also experienced a tiny bit of snow, unfortunately i dont have the prized grip heaters ( i just rely on body temperature and gloves)
I was setting the pace as i thought xy was still a bit sore from a couple of incedents on Saturday. Obviously i was taking a rock infested hill a bit slow going down, the next thing i hear is the creaking of xy’s front brake. He goes flying past me with his rear brake locked, totally in control:( .August 31, 2009 at 6:27 am #150630BRRRRRRRRRR and to think 1000km’s north we were getting sunburnt.
August 31, 2009 at 6:29 am #150632being the proud owner of a xr400, i was glad it was not hot as i forgot to take coolant for my radiator.

i felt a bit sorry for you gob on Sunday morning! riding lead and sweep all in oneB)the first time i passed you and stopped on the erosion mound i was just going at a pace most comfortable for me, to negotiate without getting too unsettled by the mud and rocks, causing a tumble.
i passed you the second time and went all the way to the bottom of that decent, because
i was gaining on you, and thought it best to go pasts and just stay in front until the bottom, in case i could not pull up and end up causing a freight-train/ rail crossing style incident and taking you with me. as you had more speed control than i did!
you and the XR are like hand and glove!
August 31, 2009 at 7:20 am #150617Here are the only 3 pics i got before the Batt. ran out:(
the drive way in, looking back from the bike port
the fire site/ “Ring of Truth”, just to the right of the drive when viewing from the place i took the first pic.
the bike port, abuzz of those suiting up for the Saturday morning ride.
gob to the left in the red and JAK to the right in the black and white, or is that white and black?
August 31, 2009 at 9:21 am #150636Here’s the first video. I’m still uploading other videos and pics but unfortunately it takes time.
I found out why i ran out of camera memory so early. At one stage I thought i had turned the camera off but unfortunately not, so i have about 27 minutes of my helmet hanging off me handlebars.
If anyone has any photos from the weekend I could use in the DVD could you PM me and i will send you my e.mail address.
Before anyone makes a smartarse comment about the speed of the riding at the back of the bunch just remember
– Were not all as good a rider as yourself.
– You were not there so you have no idea of what the conditions were like.
– We enjoy riding trails at our own pace.
– If it’s all about how fast you go or having the right bike or who can take on the big jumps then I have missed the point of joining this site.Anyway enjoy.

JAK you have captured what we would like to see as the OLDBULL spirit perfectly.
Cheers

Friday.
After an uneventful trip up to mansfield, sammy and I arrived about 12.30. we were met by the smiling XY and introduced to Brian, the owner of homestation lodge. The sun was shining and it lit up our view of the valley below like a postcard photo. just magic. We got the guided tour of the place and got a room sorted and unloaded our gear.Soon Smurf19 arrived followed by LC4skin, his mates Bob and Tobes and a little later JAK and Gob70 and MickP. It was decided that a beer was in order
as we chilled out and got some info on the area from Brian. He marked us out a little 20 odd km loop for the arvo and we all kitted up and took off up “apprentice hill”.
This was a rocky climb that started straight up from the back of the lodge. We got to the first intersection and went the wrong way, this was the first of many a wrong turn for the weekend.  It was ok though, we just did the loop backwards. It was a rocky clay climb to the ridge with a loamy run back to the start. Some great views were to be had from the top. It ran up and down the mountain with a nice little creek crossing in the middle. The loamy side was so much fun we decided to do it again, all except Smurf, who was already thinking of beer, so he stayed and guarded the intersection for us.There were a couple of little drops and Tobes had a “slow-mo” stack but was ok. If you hit one of the rocks wrong they had a habit of spearing you into the bush sideways. it made for a good opportunity to see the flora and fauna:P
The rest of us were getting thirsty too so we headed back for some refreshments.Brian had some cocky frankfurts and party pies ready for us upon return. He lit the campfire with a woof (LC4 was having flashes of motos antics at orange) and we all got stuck into some drinks before a feed of homemade chicken and vege soup.. yummm. Many a laugh was had as we sat around the “circle of truth” campfire with JAKs “fingerknitting stories”.
Adrian and Dave arrived with Tim (trumpet bum) and Stevie and later Choppa and Cheryl lobbed. Adrian had called me for directions and I told him to watch out for the two big sambar deer neer the front gate. JAK and I went and hid in the dark and jumped out holding our hand up like antlers. We were pretty merry by this stage. Funny shit!!
Everyone slowly disappeared to bed. Adrian and the boys sleeping upstairs were mucking about like a bunch of kids on school camp who wouldnt go to sleep.:laugh:The last thing I remember was realising I was snoring at the campfire although I wasn’t asleep, (I swear) and going into the kitchen for a “menaces original, ham cheese and rockyroad sandwich” (patent pending). Man we had drank lots. Choppa was busy pigging out by dipping bread in tomorrow nights half cooked spaghetti sauce and eating the cold vege soup.:X I have a vague memory of trying to dance with cheryl in the kitchen…..the rest is a blurr…ha ha.
Saturday morning…..
I awoke to a bang on the door telling me breakky was ready. I felt pretty good although I was having some double vision. I was soooo thirsty I could have drank an ocean.
Bacon, eggs, snags and toast fixed my belly but I still wasn’t seeing straight. A couple of people called me a goose for drinking too much but it was my birthday so I had an excuse. Ya get that on the big jobs.We kitted up and got some directions for the mornings loop, which again we/I got wrong. That’s what happens when the bloke with the map is seeing double!! Sammy had made us all a lolly bag each full of goodys for the ride which everyone loved.
Smurf was our first casualty for the morning spearing off the track on apprentice hill, (now renamed Smurfs climb) only 100 metres from the lodge and banged up his knee. We picked him up and pointed him back down the hill. It was a real shame as he was riding better than I had ever seen him do before his stack. He had got the suspenders done on his DRZ and reckoned it was like a new bike. That was game over for smurfs riding for the weekend, he was happy to continue drinking for the rest of his stay. 😆
At one of the early smoko/map reading stops I noticed choppa was looking a bit pale. He was having a hard time keeping his breakfast down and was sucking in the air like a breaching whale:X We ended up riding around through some great tracks and followed some awesome single stuff. There was only one little corner mishap that nearly split the group. I think I sounded a bit gruff piping up about it and some may have taken it personally, im sorry about that. I didn’t mean it to come across like it did. Are ya hearing me Bob:P
There was one really slippery log that caught out nearly everyone. We made our way down to sheepyard flat and a hut that I cant remember the name of. It was raining a lot but wasn’t really cold. My grip heaters were great at drying out my gloves. They really are worth their weight in gold. We were supposed to cross the river there and Tim scouted for a place to cross. The river was running pretty fast and was too deep. We took off up the road. There was a bridge 200 metres on…D’oh!!!
We scouted around to find a way up the next mountain and found the only track was seasonally closed. We all turned around to head back down to the flats. Stevie got his finger or something caught in his clutch lever and shot his bike off a cliff. When he joins OBT his username should be “cliffhanger” or “base jumper”, he was ok though. We talked to some nice parkrangers at the flats who were pretty helpful and decided to head back the way we had come. The single track got the better of a couple of us on return. I had a couple of step offs across some slippery roots. LC4 twisted his foot too but kept on soldiering. We got back to the greasy log and had to help everyone across. I fell on my arse pulling Choppas hussyberg (bloody european pit bike) over and it landed on my leg…I was ok but its pretty bruised now and is giving me a bit of jib. Tim scratched his spanking new kato 450 here too.
We got back to the loop we had done on Friday arvo and headed back up the hill. The cloud had come down and at times we couldn’t see 10 metres ahead. It was spooky. And with the rain it was slimyer than it was on the way out.We all got back to the lodge ok. Brian had some hotdogs ready for us for lunch with grated cheese and stuff. His timing was impeccable with the food. We stood around the fire and discussed the arvo loop which would be out the other side of the lodge. Finally, I was seeing straight and Choppa had come good too, although he was now being told that he was evicted from his bedroom cause of his snoring. JAK was passing some idle threats of bodyslamming him from the top bunk if he tried to sleep in there, everyone else in their room was in agreeance too!! I think even his fiance, cheryl was nodding her head…
Satuday night would be spent on the couch for choppa:laugh:
“Im never drinking again” we both muttered…..till tomorrow anyway.
choppa looking seedy…
End of part one.

AnonymousGreat report Menace. Looks like a good weekend was had by all. One day I will leave the North and head down South and come for a ride.
August 31, 2009 at 12:39 pm #150675The bush lodge is going to be much safer this fire season after the work choppa did with his chainsaw Friday night clearing a fire break. I didnt think it was possible, but choppa came in to the bed room climbed into his bed muttered something about being pissed, then no sooner had he said it he was snoring. I hadnt even finished giggling to myself. You know how it is when you go to bed feeling fine, knowing other people are worse than you.
