Unfortunately he is off leading a 2 Day Ride right now and can`t answer…

June 22, 2013 at 2:26 am #244204Looks like a yz guard in this pic,but the back looks chopped off. Don’t know any thing about XT660’s tbh but i have seen a clip of a front wheel lock up on the road at 100k and it put the op in hospital, i can see why you want to do this mod.
Having probs with this link, so have deleted it sorry,should be able too get a guard for around $30…..

I am literally in the middle of doing that right now.
I bought a new current model WRF/YZF 450 UFO brand front guard off ebay for $35.
Took the tow hook off. I was hoping that by some miracle the holes would line up… and they don’t. From my fiddling thus far I will probably (possibly/maybe) move the guard slightly forward and space the rear DOWN so it doesn’t contact the radiator. I have a B&B rad guard on so lose some space due to that.
Here are some mock up shots I’ve taken with guard held by ONE bolt through WR original holes…
The plastic is very SOLID one of my mates has the $240 Touratech version and the plastic seems less sturdy than the UFO. The benefit of the Touratech is that it bolts straight on, no messing around with spacers and hole drilling.
When the job is done I WILL be taking the standard guard off…
June 22, 2013 at 8:48 am #244207I have put a couple of front guards on different bikes in the last year or so, just for a bit of a stir, my xr250 has a husky guard on the front, my DT200 has a YZ450F front guard on.
Im not as fussy as some and just elongated the mount holes a little in both cases to make them work.

June 23, 2013 at 12:23 am #244302I’ve recently fitted one I bought from the “Off the Road” mob in Germany.
They call it – “Rally Front Fender, high”. Cost 33 Euro – roughly $50. It fits perfectly. Only negative is it’s a bit narrow & not quite as robust as some.
Looks the goods though :cheer:

Off the Road much cheaper, & postage quite reasonable too.

Radiator gets full of mud and shit of the front tyre
Radiator, water pump hose, rectifier, coolant bottle all are an easy target for rocks from the front wheel (saw that damage over 20,000km)
Mud throws over the front
When in the sand and standing sand seem to come over the front
Couldn’t seem to get a good fit with the tie down hook and you struggle to tie them down with out the hook with straps rubbing on body workPro’s
Wheel doesn’t clogg with mud (hasn’t ever happened) had taken guard of once in mud but rear wheel ended up locking up with mud so high guard didn’t help. I think Clubby’s front wheel ended up locking up in the black soil on the tragics recent ride with a high guard
The lower guard looks better IMO more Dakar for me :laugh:

The fender on my Tenere is from Off the Road in Germany – the fender is actually a Polisport Part called a Free Flow UFX Fender.

If you look in the accessories section on this part you will see a small pic of the rear vented part which shows a red part at the top mounting area of the guard. This piece slides back and forward to give you multiple hole adjustment so the guard will fit nearly all bikes.
I have used 40mm x 3mm aluminium flat sections (Bunnings) cut and drilled to fit on top of the guard at the front and rear mounting points to give it extra strength with some spacers (approx 10mm high and I think they come with the guard from OTR) at the rear to move the guard down so it doesn’t hit the radiator. Underneath I used large washers on the 4 bolts to also provide more strength to the mounting.
I have run the high guard for around 25 000 klms and like it. I never had an issue with the low guard, just didn’t like the look that much.
Touratech use exactly the same Polisport Part in their Tenere guard kit but also provide a better seperate mounting bracket to position the guard perfectly on the Tenere.
