National Parks is looking to make changes to access to the Wattagan’s area, if anyone wants to have their say about the damage that National Parks intend to do to The Watagans the Draft Plan of Management is on display now at Toronto, Speers Point, Cessnock and Morisset Libraries or online at:
http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/parkmanagement/wataganspomdraft.htm
Have your say on the web site or in writing to this address:
The Planning Officer, NPWS.
PO Box 1477
Gosford, NSW, 2250.
If you care about your Trail Riding, 4WDriving, Horse Riding and Camping then make sure you have your say. We have everything to lose and nothing to gain from the changes.

December 12, 2008 at 6:26 am #114543Yeah,
Come on all Old Bulls, lets get behind this & spread the word to other forums, groups, mates, relos as many as possible.
I`ve seen this sort of stuff happen years ago in other areas & it needs people like us to spread the word & make it common knowledge. NPWS & the greenies always try to keep it “LOW KEY & UNDER THE RADAR” till it`s too late. That`s when they act on the closures after there have been few or no comments    Notice that it will not be widely publicised though:angry:SPREAD THE LINK AS FAR AS YOU ALL CAN via email etc
December 12, 2008 at 9:36 am #114549Have sent it to everyone in my address book!!! What a bunch of C’s
December 12, 2008 at 9:48 am #114544Heard simular though i heard the parks are getting pushed to use the word TOURIST amoungst their wordings in legislation which in turn will give multi-national companies a foot in the door to open rest stops and ‘tourist’ centers through our nat. parks etc. (These money grabbing desk jockies have run out of land to access! ) now they want our backyard! f them !!!

AnonymousI had a look at the report that they have done and from my interpretation of it they want to close off some tracks and make some changes, but its not all doom and gloom. They are not going to put gates and a chain mesh fence the whole way around the place and say no more play. From what I have read and what you hear, nearly all the riding that we do in the Watagans is illegal anyway. Do you really think that by fencing some tracks off is going to stop people from riding up there. It may change where you ride but wont stop you. If one track dies off another one will come to life.
Maybe we all need to start to be a little bit smarter and not ride the same tracks all the time. Particulary the ones near the camping / picnic grounds. If people can’t see you it must not be happening. There is a lot of ground to play in up there so it might be the case of parking the car and trailer and riding 10 minutes or so down a “designated” road way before dropping into the bush for the single trail?
I may be totally off track with my interpretation of the whole thing and I am open to everyone elses comments. I would hate not to be able to ride up the Watagans. It’s one of the best places around IMO.Dan
December 12, 2008 at 10:15 am #114546Yeah DanD,
I read it too, & you are correct, they want to close doown some tracks, repair others, let some regenerate, SLOWLY BUT SURELY PUSH USERS OUT !!!!!
This is how it starts, as I have said before, I have seen it done in other parks & forests over the last decade. Places like Barrington, Wollemi, Yengo, Myalls & Stockton Bight etc etc etc 4×4 groups & others have been fighting & lobbying for decades & there seems to be no end to it all.
Only hope this one drags out for another decade or ten HA HA
The more silence there is from the general public, the more they take by stealthDecember 12, 2008 at 10:29 am #114561
AnonymousThe greenies are a sly bunch. They probably think that advertising things in such publications as “hemp basket weavers monthly” as kepping the public informed of there slimey ways. I to hope that we all can keep riding the Watagans for a long time to come.
December 12, 2008 at 10:29 am #114562Empathy is the biggest killer. So many people WONT get off their butts’ and say anything because they believe it wont affect them. eg. I dont go camping/riding/driving there so it’s no issue to me. Here where I am, we have the Kill joys confiscating kids Bikes, for riding in a piece of crown land that was tuirned into a track with jumps, whoops, berms etc, by kids nearly 20 yr ago. What part of it cant the figwits understand? kids on bikes aren’t doing drugs and or ripping your home off. People need to keep emailing their local members. get yoru friends, anyone you can to email. Now, if ” everyone” was to do this daily, say at 9am day 1. day2 10 am.day 3. 11am etc. just keep at it.also hit the bossman of NPWS. he he .

AnonymousNot good news but it was in the pipeline I guess. As all have said we should try and be a bit smarter about where we ride to help the image out a bit. If you not seen of heard then surely you are not there
December 15, 2008 at 3:11 am #114795Yeah someone else already has this on the site, but hey more the merrier I say, get on board people, we will all go of our heads if we lose it, its for us all to do something about not leave it to others
