September 1, 2008 at 7:01 am #107722oop’allmost forgot karma for that one fingers
September 1, 2008 at 8:35 am #107723Well it started badly, no alarm luckily everything was packed and ready to go the night before, into the car, bike already on and go. Drove past Chris’s and forgot to stop and get the camera DOH!
Arrived to pick up Crash and Dr D at the agreed location, bikes very quickly tied on and go again, had a great run up to the F3 and checked the klms left before push and it said I and about 23klms up my sleeve to the twin Caltexs nth of wyong so go. Was traveling at a healthy rate of knots, not the 160 that Ollie suggested take about 30 of that old mate, just caught that 4 cylinder of yours at the top of a hill made it look worse lol.Its was then I noticed the klms till push reading dropping faster than a $2 hooker, nah she’ll be right I said, no it wasn’t stopped 3klms short of the twin Caltexs. Quickly drained a couple of litres from Crashes big red pig and go again
We meet Ollie and Tiny (who had been there since 6.30 am WTF!) Time 7.36am only 6 minutes late. Northy turned up in his mates XR6 ute with the noisiest diff I have ever heard. Quick intros and everyone geared up.
Straight into it, big hill straight away, Bana had told me the hill was unrideable but everyone made it up, think Tiny had some trouble but it was easier than I had been informed so that was good. We ginned around for sometime I lead the boys up a real shi*#y rocky hill only to discover it wasn’t the hill I thought it was and it went no where. I madly waved my arms for them to stop but they all came up! Oh well back down and carried on
We then slowly working our way around to the pines area and into the single line from the A4DE and the group was moving at a good pace, no hold ups was really good just picking little loops keeping us on track. We left the camping area where we will have the Christmas Party. We tracked some single trail towards the basin and came across a real big hole nasty nasty nasty, which being the lead meant I was parked in, Tiny helped me get the big red big out and 4 of us got through before I yelled back to the others to go around on the road which was beside us. We then meet a large group on a muddy downhill, after squeezing past there was a steep little jump up topped with a tree stump that had wet greasy roots going every different direction, I got straight up it and headed to the next junction and waited for the boys. Tiny turned up with the rear guard of the husky duct taped on after getting snapped of some how, never did find that out, help?We rode over to an old loop that I hadn’t used for a few years and thought we will squeeze that in before lunch, we rode at a good pace, boys said Tiny had been having some dirt naps but was doing great, lush single line, best of the day, down to a little creek past some dudes parked having a breather and onto a snotty little sandstone rock platform step up style hill, wet and as slippy as a pork chop, I managed to get to the last inch from the top and it slid sideways into the water wash beside it, no biggy, just dragged it sideways about 4 foot, started it and torqued the BRP up. I parked it and went to watch some different styles at which to attack this snotty little number, DR D had a few attempts and the 2009 300 two dinger was copping a beating, Ollie just torqued the RMX two dinger straight up, Northy showed his disgust by getting nearly all the way up and then head butting the earth back beside the rock platform. As Ollie mentioned in his report Tiny did a signature move of his a superman no grab which left him with a torn Hamstring DOH! Before the hill so Crash and Northy jumped into action and got the big bitch up the hill, I am talking about the 610 Husky! Lol
Everyone up and of to the shop for lunch, which track? They have had a dozer or something through there and the tracks looked different, felt some what embarrassed that I couldn’t find the track, so after taking the boys to a romantic, scenic lookout that none of them appreciated we checked out Northy’s GPS to get back onto the track I couldn’t recognize, this was valuable because it meant going down a real bad hill we would have struggled to get back up, once down the bottom I recognized the track and of we went to the shop. Crash and I had both the 650’s go onto reserve within meters and then run out of petrol again within meters of one another I kid you not! With the standard tanks it’s just a case of tipping the bikes over and transferring the fuel to the pick up side of the tank and away we went.Fueled at the general store in Laguna and enjoyed an awesome lunch and a beer and of we went. Now this is where it went pear shaped, I sent Tiny home via the black top, because of his hamstring drama and said to crash who was suiting up will cruise along and you catch us up. We left the shop turned down the road we go every time back to the forest, here I didn’t stop to peg a corner man, why well I just didn’t think, thought maybe crash knew what was going on, thought one of the guys following who had been cornering all day would do it, thought it was a no brainer, anyway no blame my fault! As the lead it was my fault. We rode to the gate, where I thought they would catch us, we waited nothing, Northy said he didn’t want to be home late, so I said I would go back to the shop and see what was going on, 17 klms back to the shop, no one there, back to the boys more 50 + klms and still no one. I decided to get to take Northy and the boys up to the Watagan Creek rd turn of and show them the way. Once I got them there they left I didn’t have enough fuel to get back to Laguna, or to the letter A where Wayne wanted me to meet him, we had contact via text and broken phone calls. I couldn’t go any direction other than to the car but knew that they had to pass me no matter which way they came back into the Watagans so I waited. 2hrs later I pulled on the helmet and thought well back to the car and wait as it was getting dark, then I here the sound of a fat fifty cranking up the dirt road and Crash rounds the corner followed by Ollie and D. Quick chat and back to the cars via Corranbong.
I was the best morning good guys, good riding, little dust all good, and after thinking about it the afternoon was fine, no one was hurt everyone got home under there own steam (even the KTM’s !) and lessons have been learnt for future use.

If I got it wrong fix it! Lol

September 1, 2008 at 9:30 am #107659Well done TB, I know the stress of running a big ride. It all works out to be fun in the end. Sometimes things that go wrong end up being part of the adventure.
