AnonymousWell guys, tell us all how today’s ride went. How did Chiefgili’s bike perform today in the extreme heat? Any jetting or blocked carby issues?

November 14, 2008 at 10:45 am #112163I went up the Chickens the nite before, was a nice change haven’t been up and seen his family for awhile. I woke in the morning hearing chicken in the kitchen at 5am WTF, I went back to sleep we didn’t have to leave to at least 20 to 8. Funny thing was Ollie had said that we start our rides early, early we used to start at 5.30 to 6am, and this one was an 8am start.
We meet at the camping area and suited up, Gill handed over the seal savers that he and Ollie had made
So once suited up we made onto the sweet single trail we will be using for the Saturday morning loop at the Xmas party, during this I handed the BRP over the Gilli and jumped on the WR. Firstly as light as it felt it is very unbalanced Gilli also said this was the case, the other thing was how doughy it was. We did some open stuff, twin trail and some really tight single line up thru Tiny’s log jump where he tore the rear guard of the chainsaw and smoked thru on the BRP, but he can give his views on it all.
We travelled along at a cracking pace with only 4 very experienced riders, we went past Tiny’s loop past Ollie’s lookout without stopping, Old Bulls in action (wasn’t hot yet) We dropped down to the pub access road and headed away from the pub, the mission to check tracks for the party DOH should have gone to the damn PUB!
Anyway we rode some sweet trails, one had a nasty looking hill that we sent Gilli up to check out, as he has an electric leg and is the youngest, the decision was made that it was unsuitable for a large group. We worked our way back past the camping area and deicided to check out some loops nth of the camping area. We not long got into it when we had had first real break, which when taking into account the temperature wasn’t bad for us old blokes and Gilli.
We left there and got onto a lush trail which lead us down a very steep little hill, that became a very long downhill, I was saying to myself I hope this goes somewhere because I wouldn’t like to get the big girl up it. Its was very over grown as we went along it, vines ready to rip you from the big, soon the track started going down again and down past a white sign with red writing that said F*#k off. Chicken was leading and didn’t give it a 2nd look, soon we came out at Banjo heaven! Fair dinkum I kid up not King Gee’s biggest Market for bib and brace overalls and banjo playing in them there hills. We decided to get of and push the bikes thru the place it was only a short push and we hadn’t seen anyone (they may have been reloading we laughed) as we got to the driveway a lady? came out of the house / shack / shed / banjo house / breeding room a quick serve of the old chicken charm and we continued down the driveway and out onto Martinsville road. Funny thing about the whole chat with her was she said “if my son was home he would say if you come down there you can go back up” when we stopped up the road the general consensus was her son would also be her husband lol
Chicken left us here and we continued back up to the camp area, I had been practicising my wheel stands and pulled of a cracker up the hill and around the corner is was a good one that Gill saw thank god. Ollie hooked us up on a sweet trail back towards the pines that I didn’t know as there. It was along here that I dropped the BRP for the first time in a long time (will now be the start of many), I saw a hill climb we didn’t need the do but thought WTF picked a bad line and made it to within about 3 meters from the top, it didn’t look pretty, major problem was I was paddling and couldn’t get it back into 1st, it was so steep and slippery that I had to drop it to stop it sliding back down the hill. Gilli took a different line and went up making it look easy. On we went back up to the single line that runs parallel with the road along the pines area and stopped to fuel the bikes.
We thought w should go down and look at the boarding house dam to check it for swimming, we dicked around some tracks a real good one that we will more than likely do, it’s a dead end but worth doing, down to the dam we went, long story short, no good. We had a chat with a couple of ranger mechanics test driving a fire tanker they had refurbished, they also said that they has seen and eel massive eel in the water. We chatted with them for a while and then worked our way back.
Some shots from the dam area
The Gasser all dirty
The dutch ranger that knew bikes, dont tell him bikes
BRP
Gill flexing
All in all a 110kms covered at a great pace very good, Cheers Guys

November 14, 2008 at 9:57 pm #112177Well I had to lay it on its side as it was to steep to stop it going backwards faster than when it went up!

November 15, 2008 at 6:08 am #112200Watagans Ride report Friday 14th Nov
Well the night before I was prepping the Gasser for the ride.My mate Henk had lent me a Hyde plastic bashplate/pipe protector and alloy radiator gaurds. That took me about 1 hour to fit the Hyde I didnt do the rad gaurds.Next job was changing the clip position on the carby, simple job blind freddy could do right? wrong!! The number 7 slide came out easy enough, but the little alloy jigger with the 6mm hex head was stuck fast!! Ive never had that happen before,I applied WD40,heat and several different tools to try and get some grip on it all to no avail. I kept trying for about an hour and was seriously considering using my carb out of the rmx that had the same slide but a different needle. I had to go upstairs and get my self a cup of tea to settle down. I gave it one more go and it undid easy as ! thank christ for that the time was now getting on to about 11 PM and I had to be on the rd by 6:30 to get to the pines by 8!
I finished it all by 12 and came back upstairs to check the website to see if anyone had posted anything interesting, and check the latest youporn video’s for some one handed typing, I needed something to help me get to sleep!!
Gili rocked up early and we were on our way by about 6:45 we arrived at the Pines at 8:15ish and had a bit of a yak to TB and Brett. We handed TB some of the best looking seal savers ever made and he handed us each a pack of “jack Link’s” sweet & Hot ,Halal certified New Zealand Beef Jerky mmm jerky. my Favourite.
Gili and Brett headed off down to the the camping area where we were going to be setting up for the Chrissy Party.I started to follow them when thought geez one clip position sure makes a big difference! the bike was running shit, I then realized I had left the Zorst bung in!!
I turned around and went back to the Cars as the others were not that long behind us. We then all got going heading up a couple of roads to check out some single track. The roads have had a lot of usage recently by loggers and 4×4’s and in some sections the dust was really thick I decided to myself that I would be taking it relatively easy today as I did not want to get injured, both Gili and I were supposed to be at Work!
We cut off up some sweet single trail and I got crossed up in a rut and came down, nothing major no damage done, but because I only had the standard Hebo handgaurds on my hand was pinned between the clutch lever and grip,(must get barkbusters!)The bike was still running crap and didnt want to get onto the main real easy. we went down some really good tracks that were quite technical,TB had jumped onto Gili’s WR for a ride impression,Gili was still not happy with the way the bike was going from all reports I believe he was impressed with the way the big 6 fitty goes and handles.luckily for him he wasnt in the tight single trail shit. TB had a pocket full of Yellow tape which he put on the entries to some of the tracks we would be taking. We then worked our way back to the cars after a bit to eat we headed down German point rd, this track had not seen any use for a long time and had a lot of vines and Lantana growing over it. it was a great track and if it was cleared properly would be awsome, unfortunately it ends up at the back of some private property with horses, so we had to shut the bikes down and walk them through,it was then we were confronted by Ma Kettle, who told us that it was lucky her son/husband were not here as he would of made us go back from where we came from Im sure she had a loaded shotty near the doorway and it was lucky that Brett who comes from over the hill at Cooranbong could speak the duelling Banjo lingo and smoothed things over so we got out of there alive. We then headed up the Tar to Martinsville Rd where Brett had to leave us, Tb pulled a bit of a Mono it is a 650 and it was uphill He was impressed with himself. We then took a track off the side of Martinville Rd that I had not ridden on for years and it is still as good as i remember,Tb decided to have a go at this uphill that was pretty damn steep,he got to within a couple of meters before she coffed and stalled where Tb layed her over on the side. The ride back down was more impressive as he ploughed his own track through the trees trying to scrub off speed, if he overshot it would have been a serious push to get it back to the top. Gili then had a go at the hill, he took a different line and made it with a bit of a struggle near the top,it was good to watch! we then headed off again and went up another rocky hill top to the top of the rd. We then came to the main intersection when TB asked if we should take the easy way or go thru the root infested whooped out snotty single trail,it was a no brainer the whooped out snotty single it was. We did about half of it when TB had a moment on the 650,we decided it was to hot to play silly buggers so we headed back to the cars via the dirt rd.
We filled up the bikes and had a bit of a breather before we decided to explore some of the trails that run off the main rd, we were going to check out boarding house dam for a place to have a swim it was a 14 km dirt rd blast. The seat on the gasser is as hard as a plank and my sphincter was feeling as though it had gone 10 rounds with the Gimp.We made it to the rest area and had a chat to a couple of forestry workers they were test running a refurbed tanker. Gili went for a walk to explore the surrounds while TB and myself relaxed in the shade and listened to linguistic crap from one of the forestry dudes. We eventually got motivated and headed off again following some single track off the side of the rd, we found a disused quarry and had a bit of a play over a couple of mounds and the like,it was here that I had noticed that i must have accidentally bumped the duel ignition switch into the cloudy/boggy conditions position, wow what a transformation jetting still not perfect but at least it was coming onto the mainjet. We went down one trail that was really technical and was a lot of fun including a creek crossing unfortunately it ended in a near vertical climb and would not be suitable for a bunch of riders to be led through,we also headed down another trail that came out into a cow paddock,so we turned around and headed back up to the main rd again. the dust and the heat were starting to get to us so we did a bit of a sprint back to the cars.Tb hit a pot hole and jarred his wrist so he got cranky and held the throttle wide open all the way back to the cars im glad no cars/or bikes were coming the other way as it could have been ugly.I opened up the gasser on the straights to find out what top speed was, 132 km/h with the standard gearing and jetting not bad.
we then loaded up the bikes and headed home I was that knackered and Gili’s ute doesnt have aircon I crashed out for about 40 minutes on the Rd.
It was a good days riding and the pace was really good, beats the shit out of being at work, unfortunatley it was a bit hot and dusty, the weather today is cool cloudy and overcast and we had some good rain, would have been perfect riding today, but if we went today and followed the same tracks we did yesterday we may never of gotten out of that backwater bayou alive lolTB and Gili
