With the sun out again and after a top days riding yesterday, I thought I would make the most of the down time by exploring some more trails on the bike.

This time I stayed closer to home and ventured into some trails I haven’t been on since the KTM days.
Once again I headed up through Martinsville and took a side track that lead me along some perfectly loamy trails until I came across this tree on the path. I thought of that recently posted video of Hollis and pictured me flicking the Beemer over the log – but chickened out and turned around

I took a few more side tracks but knowing my limits (and the bikes), decided not to venture too far down some of the rocky decents. I layed the bike over at the top of one decent and it took nearly 5 minutes to get it upright

Past the camping area I headed to the Boarding House Dam on the way to Heatons lookout. The scenery throught he Watagans is terrific and although I have been very spoilt with the trails on the recent 2 day nav rides, I think that the Watagans offer some of the best Adventure riding trails around :woohoo:

Heaton lookout is a great view and while I have been there dozens of times, I still like going there to look over the Coast. I had to double back here and headed towards Cessnock hoping there would be a trail leading to Laguna but it turned to black top so I headed back up into the Watagans.

It is great having the GPS with TB’s latest SD card. It has every track in detail so I was able to navigate my way around and link up some great trails but still heading in the direction I wanted to go.

Georges Rd was one I had never been down before so I followed it to the end and it had some great views along the way. The tracks were perfect with just enough moisture to eliminate dust and give maximum traction. I really enjoyed this 12 klm track.

On the way back I went down a track called Hammonds track(I think). I crossed this creek and got a bit further into the scrub when I noticed a small camp fire burning in off in the bush with no car, tent, gear or person so being the big girl that I am, I did the only sensible thing and high-tailed it out of there before I got eaten – or worse, my bike got stolen  . It makes you wonder who is around when you’re out on your own?

I worked my way back to Freemans Waterhole via Mt Faulk Rd where I fuelled up and headed to the Gap to go on some of the Northern trails.

Now it’s been a while since I have been up there on a dirt bike (Gap Trail)but I was really surprised at how some of those tracks had deteriorated. I chickened out of this one and looked for another way in!

A bit further down the road in Brunkerville, and thanks to the GPS I found the Brunkerville trail which took me up. It was a steep climb that went…

    and went… :S

    and went… :S

I know what your thinking…they don’t look steep??? Trust me the pictures don’t do it justice and I spent several minutes at the bottom of each one working up the courage to continue.

There were some really good sections through here for the big bike and some sections were perfect for a 450 and resembled a motorcross track with all of the contour drains.

So after another great day and the dark clouds looming, I headed back home. Once again the bike didn’t miss a beat. As luck would have it, within 5 minutes of arriving home, the rain set in.

The Watagans should definitely not be overlooked for some awesome trailriding so I will put it out there that if anyone hasn’t been through the Watagans or just wants a cruisy day of riding, I would be happy to lead a day ride at some time in the future to show you the sites.

Post or PM if you are intersted and we’ll make it happen. ;)

Thought you might be in on that. We’ll see if there are any takers?

Good report and I’d be a taker!

The Watagans are my back yard, and I recognised some of the tracks talked about, but not all; it would be great to see some new ones.

Wednesday it is :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: Start planning the route Ace.

I guess from my point of view a start point at the letter A is an easy meeting point for me

I don’t really know my way around the Watos but do know how to get there at least

Takes me roughly hour and a half to get there from home.

Sounds good mate, say 830 at the letter A or is that to early for you? What are you after – cruisy scenic or mix it up?
