AnonymousWHy not 60:1 Axel? That’s what the manual recommends. Do they run better at 50:1 or is it just peace of mind for you?
I think I’ll get about 100Km’s from the standard tank before hitting reserve….

Anonymousi’m out
i think i’ll go ride at cessnock with racy and my sister on saturday then dunes or adv on sunday.
have fun guys. i know you will
October 28, 2009 at 12:50 am #158354Hey Moto
I will have a jerry can of unmixed 98fuel with a 1 litre container hidden at spot X. So if anybody needs to spill a couple of litres in, it will be measured accuratelyAs Axel said the oil will be up to you to organise
You may get round the loop without refueling, I think tf2 does.
Yes take some extra fuel to leave at the car for the first little warm up loop which runs for about 15kms:)
Cheers

MurphOctober 28, 2009 at 1:19 am #157278hey moto i’ve been doin the premix thing for years. you should be able to do the same distance as murph on his 4 banger before refuelin. i carry a bit of oil and one of those big syringes that ya get from the chemist. i think they hold 100-120mls.
if i’m on me own at the servo i turn me petrol off and just fill up keepin an eye on the litres and makin sure i leave a bit of room for the required amount of oil. then i just put the oil in and shake the shit out the bike before turnin the petrol back on.
i run my 08 300 at 50:1 as that’s what Cessnock ktm recommended when i bought it. athough he did say that ya could run en as lean as 80-90:1 if needed.
50:1 seems to work for me. i run everythin stock aswell with the mapping switch wich i muck around with on hills a bit.
i have loaded up one plug but that was more to do with me just being absolutly rooted in some tight shit and not being able to open it up and clean it out.
so i always carry a plug cause once they shit emselves the’re pretty f**ked.
have a good oneOctober 28, 2009 at 1:20 am #158355Moto wrote:

I have traveled 130km on my ’08 without hitting reserve on a ride recently. Mind you, were were riding “cautiously”.
I will bet that a new bike like yours that isn’t fully loosened up will drink fuel like crazy. Be aware of that. The mixture ratio for 300s is not a real debate anymore. Sure you can run 60:1 as the manual says but I only stand by 2 reasons not to:
1) No one I know will run 60:1. They have their own reasons. The KTMTalk guys also don’t recommend 60.
2) I read in recent months a KTMTalk forum member actually went to the effort to test 40/50/60. Hi comments went like this: 60:1 dry crank and big end bearings, 50:1 was nice oily coating/residue and 40:1 more oily again. As you may have gathered with KTM manuals over the years they like to make money. Their recommended maintenance schedules are crazy unless you ware a full time Pro racer. I believe the 60:1 ratio although probably quite safe for a racer rebuilding bottom ends twice a year… being trailriders and not wanting to touch a bottom end as long as live, will prefer a little more oil. It’s stuff all more anyway when you look at it.
Sorry to Tbone the thread everyone
Carry on.

AnonymousOk I need to go find me a little container for the ride. 50:1 sounds good, easier to mix in ratio too, so i’ll give that a go. When I ran 40:1 in the little 200 it ran crap and kept fouling plugs. Running it at 50:1 was heaps better and tehn it went better again when I ran a hotter plug.
October 28, 2009 at 5:52 am #158393Im with Axel on that one as well Moto, I try and run 40:1 but I use a semi synthetic not full synthetic.

MurphI’m not sure about how many km’s we are talking or even how many I can go on my tank, but I will refuel after the warm up loop, and I’m pretty sure I’ll be wanting prob 4-5L somewhere on track. Haven’t had the bike for long and hard to judge fuel level (odd shape tank).
Will u have enough for me to buy off you or can you dump some somewhere for me if I bring extra in a jerry?
And I’m now a definate
October 28, 2009 at 9:09 pm #158445Seeys Saturday Holeshot and fiends
Good to see a some more four strokes as I thought there was only going to be 2 or 3 of us
Hey Ripnshred
I’m riding a pretty thirsty 525 and I usually switch to reserve for the last couple of kms. I’m thinking you should be good for at least the same range  My bike needs reserve after 70 to 80kms. May have to put a couple of jerry cans at spot X and take a couple of gold coin donations from those who want spill a couple of litres in their tanks???Revised list
