October 10, 2009 at 10:27 am #155881Hi all,
Just a quick note. Bit pressed for time this evening. Will post a ride report and some images tomorrow.
My main concern was the heavens opening up and spoiling the day, but that was not to be. A little drizzle at Flat Rock Lookout towards the end of the ride was all we saw, just enough to spoil the view of the valley below. Trail conditions were perfect (except for the slippery rocks on the grade 4 single trail
).
Thanks to Champo for sweeping, and to Wikdbeemer for leading when required.
Thanks also to all those who braved the weather. Good ride and good company. (Wikdbeemer you left Old Al off your list – better edit your post before he notices  ).
Didn’t meet up with The Bill nor plus 1.
btw That wasn’t TW lying down in Champo’s pic. Proud to say he had no spills today – must not have been working old yella hard enough.

AnonymousWas a top ride even though Wikdbeemer didn’t know I was there!
The conditions were as perfect as you could want. No dust for the majority of the ride, just a bit on the main forestry road leading up to Flat Rock.
Some great flowing twin and single track and a bit of technical stuff coming down the Great North Walk. Heaps of photos were taken so when Training Wheels posts up all will be revealed.
Had a bit of fun just before the end of the ride. Training Wheels decided he would take us across to Old Mill Road via a “nice track with just a bit of technical stuff but no problem.” Needless to say two sections of the track someone else road my bike down. Slippery rock steps on one and a steep rutted downhill with tree roots to complicate things. Anyway Champo rides Tracy’s bike down then decides he will have a go at riding it back up. After three attempts, a good off and some nice expletives he gave up. Tracy was not amused as she was up the top waiting to walk down!
Kylie road up and down everything. Not always as graceful as she is off the bike but nothing stopped her. Gutsy lady. She came up behind me a couple of times and I waved her through and then tried to keep up. Couldn’t.
Thanks Paul, another well organised top ride. Thank’s Champo for sweeping.
Good day with good people. Cannot think of a better way to spend a Saturday.
old al.

Looks familiar except for the Leaf Litter :huh:I will have to put omit to having a little nap on the side of that hill. :side:
As for its name wouldn’t have a clue, I got loss trying to fine the Pines, for the morning meeting. Thanks everyone for waiting and not snarling, (well not to my face)
T.W. the rolling race I must admit now, was not as dumb as I first thought.
T.W. thanks for organising and leading the ride. Thanks Champo T.E.C. and more so for the three attempts up that little incline.
RossOctober 10, 2009 at 11:51 pm #155882I am in the process of putting together a bit of a slide show, and a video of the rolling race. In the mean time here is a report with some of the pics.
The group got away just after 9:30, after having received a call from Ross that he was enroute, but late.
With an easy run to the back of Mt Warrawong, the first technical section was encountered. Poor Ross make it down the drop OK but came undone just as he got to the bottom.
Dakar Hill was next, with most taking it pretty steady.
And then there’s Champo.
Coming out onto Watagan Road we then regrouped at Lynch’s Fire Trail. Along here the hill climbing skills were tested, with all making it up unassisted (well done RacyTracy).
Regrouping at Cabans Road we rested, had some sustenance (beef jerky and snakes), and mentally prepared ourselves for the rolling race.
TW thought he had won the race with the others riders pulling up just short, but he was beaten by Beemer and Champo, with Ross claiming the bragging rights. Rumour has it he eventually came to a stop in someone’s backyard in Millfield. I’ll post some video of the race later. (no pics, only video)
Following the race it was then straight to Flat Rock Lookout, where we took in the view of Quorrobolong valley through the mist.
It was here that Ross showed us his riding style that wins rolling races.
Arriving at Bowmans Road it was decided (well TW decided for the group) that all should have a go at the grade 4 single track, that was initially planned for just Champo and Justo. I don’t think Al will ever follow me down new single tracks again.
There were three sections of technical stuff – a rock step descent, a rutted descent, and a creek crossing. Although some of us were a bit out of our comfort zone all had a go, with assistance being offered as required.
Onto the rutted descent, Champo was keen to conquer it in the opposite direction. After his third attempt he admitted defeat (amongst the expletives). We were impress with just how far he actually did get.
The creek crossing was next, unfortunately where Kylie did better on the drop in than the climb out. Again there was someone there to help.
Coming out on Old mill Road it was then back to the cars, where Ross was presented his prize for the rolling race – an embroided shirt donated by Singleton Motorcycles.
The route:

October 11, 2009 at 1:08 am #155883What a great day… Considering the weather was not looking to flash earlier in the lead up to saturday morning!
A big Thanks to TW, for organizing the ride, Some great trails we rode on which linked up to make the loop we rode. Good job TW.
As the other reports said, The conditions were perfect for riding. Just minimal dust factor on the main forest/fire trails and zero dust on the sigle trails…
Great leading by TW and WB, and great job by champo for the sweep riding!
As for the rolling race , I was suprised at how competative I became half way through it. Think every one had a laugh out of it. Good Idea TW.. lookforward to the next one!
Also a great bunch of people to ride with . I look forward to next time…
Cheers justo:woohoo:

October 11, 2009 at 3:08 am #155965Bowmans is a good downhill :woohoo: I led the crew down there on the second day of last years Christmas Party. There was a few unmentionable expletives used in that section
unfortunatley the extreme 4wding crowd have got in there in their monster trucks and have totaly buggered it up   so much so that NPWS are going to be putting a gate on it. Al it takes is a few idiots
