Looks like you all had a ball! Congrats to all and especially TW for leading such a successful ride!
October 11, 2009 at 3:57 am #155884Here’s the video of the rolling race. According to the GPS it was just over 3 km.
It’s a 3 min video, so if you have a slowish connection (like me) it might pay to make a cup of coffee while it downloads then select Replay once it has fully downloaded.

October 11, 2009 at 4:16 am #155978What GPS did you use to log the trip TW? I’m pretty convinced I need to pick up a 60csx so I can track the rides with you blokes and head back out there to learn them myself.

AnonymousIt was a great ride. It was nice to catch up with some of the riders from the Jurds ride.
I didn’t realise that my retractable cloth would have so much interest. DanD can’t take credit for the idea though because he had seen it on someone’s bike on another ride that he did. I have to say taking that video was pretty funny.
Paul has it all worked out you know. He wouldn’t tell us we were going down Dakar hill until we got down the bottom of it. BTW does anyone know why it is called Dakar hill? I had a couple of ideas but they were pretty far fetched and I am curious how it got it’s name.
It was pretty slippery after the rain that we had and I was unfortunate enough to watch Merlot on his one and only off when he slipped along a log. I don’t like watching people (other than me) coming off because I always get worried that they have hurt themselves. For some reason I think that although I fall off a lot and it doesn’t hurt that when everyone else comes off it must hurt. But he was all OK.
I only had a couple of falls during the ride and picked my bike up both times so I was pretty happy with that. One of them was funny in that we had gotten up a steep rocky hill fine and I stopped on the flat at the top with Justo and Ross I think and then just fell off. . That happens to me a lot and it is very embarrassing.
The rolling race – HOW FUN WAS THAT? Don’t diss it until you try it. It was really funny because even though we had a gap between starts I overtook Tracy on the way down but then it flattened out and she then wizzed past me. I actually came last on the rolling race. D’oh!
I would like to go back and do a lot of the trails that we did again because they were really good. I liked the track that we did after flat rock. I can’t remember what the fire trail was called but it had lots of corners and was really fun. The single trail we did after that I had done before at last years Xmas party and as I said to a couple of guys on the ride I think I nearly pooped my pants on that last downhill. I was taking Paul’s advice with him saying ‘No front brake, no front brake’ and I felt like I was fair flying down that short downhill but wasn’t it steep? I have no idea how I didn’t end up in a bad way with that one.
Oh and Old Al I am not sure if gutsy is the right word. Stupid might be better. I am getting older and I should know better. Considering you were still getting over being sick you went really well.
Everyone was very patient on the ride including watching Champo on ‘the hill climb that beat Champo’. Although I am not so sure about that statement yet. I reckon he will go out there again and do it until he conquers it.
After the ride Justo, Wikd, Champo and myself went and did a bit of single trail. I took them up near Muirs because I love the single trail around there. We then headed back towards the Pines along the single trail which was really fun.
RacyTracy went really well as well as some of the tracks were really quite difficult.
Thanks to everyone who was on the ride for having me along.

Yes dear.
October 11, 2009 at 11:09 am #155886I can only mirror what everyone else has said for this ride – It was a great ride with some great people!
I especially enjoyed the very little dust! (at one stage I actually got a tiny bit excited to see the dust again but I quickly remembered why I don’t like it!)
Thank You to TW for organising the ride & for your techincal advice along the way.
Thank You to everyone on the ride for your patience, especially with Champo’s attempts to get up that hill!
I had a great ride. I was very keen to get advice before the hard stuff to ensure I had the right technique. At times this took a bit more time but I didn’t come off all day so a ride without hurting myself is always a very good outcome!
A definite highlight was the Rolling Race. I wasn’t sure at first as I had forgot to read what it was about, but it was really fun. I became quiet competitive when Kylie came rolling past but I was determined to get back past her! In the end I finished about a metre or so in front, so there wasn’t a lot in it!
Champo & I are really keen to do the loop again (maybe we will sneek out some time next weekend – we will have to see how the weather goes etc!)
Thanks everyone for a great ride!

CheersHi Eagle,
Good to hear that there is still a valley below Flat Rock.
All we saw on the day was mist. We were lucky with the weather on the day as we only got drizzle just as we pulled up at the lookout (of all places). Some of us put on spray jackets, only for it to clear once we had left.October 12, 2009 at 1:04 am #155999ross wrote:

Yeh Ross, lap it up. We all knew you cheated – we just can’t work out how ???
October 12, 2009 at 1:33 am #155887Slide-show update:
Firstly, thanks all for the compliments. We all enjoyed the day out. Admit it Al – you actually enjoyed the grade 4 ST. When was the last time to slid down rock steps and down deep ruts with the back wheel locked up, having no control, and soiling your pants at the same time? Exactly! At least we were all in the right company having a go at something like that. Champo does come in handy at times.
Well guys, I finished the slide-show yesterday morning with a top soundtrack, matched perfectly if I do say so myself – only for it to be rejected by Photobucket – copyright issues.
So then I put it on Youtube – only to receive a copyright warning when I did, followed by an email regarding the (mis)use of copyright music. The wife’s worried we’re gonna get sued and lose the house, so it’s been removed.
Spent all yesterday afternoon trying alternate soundtracks, all being rejected by Photobucket.
I may end up posting it without music, but its just not the same. If I do I’ll ask you all to hum ‘Forever Young’ while you watch it.
