It seems that a few on here have caught the ADV bug and the likes of Toes and Puddles were keen to get a short day ride happening up the Hastings Valley to Comboyne.
The morning of the ride I looked out the window and saw the heavy grey clouds threatening to dump copious amounts of water on any one fool hardy enough to venture out on a motorcycle. This being the case I had already made up my mind that I would not bother going and do my best to accumulate some brownie points.
The boy’s plan was to meet at Timbertown at 9am and head out from there, at 8.30am my phone rings and Toes is on the phone doing his best to coax me into going. I looked out the window and there happened to be a little bit of blue sky so I thought what the heck and quickly kitted up and roared out of the shed on my XR650.
No sooner did I reach the meeting spot it absolutely pissed down and that set the scene for a majority of the ride. The first section of the ride was from Wauchope to Beechwood on the tar, a barrel of laughs on full on knobbie tyres!!

Anyhow once we hit the gravel on Pipeclay road the fun began as far I was concerned. I quickly rounded up the other guys on their proper adventure bikes, giving Puddles a proper roosting as I did it. I then caught up to Toes on his VStrom and didn’t we have a ball trying to roost each other and splatter cow shit in each others general direction. Word of warning, watch Toes if you are riding with him, he is one sneaky SOB.
Some pics from up Pipeclay road.

    Toes eventually turned up

By the time we got to Kindee bridge we were wet and a bit cold, I was glad I packed extra gloves!

In order to make the rest of the trip I needed to top up my fuel at Long Flat Store

Gizza on the DRZ also used this stop as an excuse to slink off home via the blacktop but the rest of us headed for Toms Creek Road which is a cracker run up the hills to Comboyne. The sun came out for this section and it was a fantastic run up the switch backs

Near the top we stopped to take in the view.

    Yep Puddles was there!

Anyhow once we left there the weather was kind to us although a bit cold and windy, as we crossed the Comboyne Plateau headed for Koppin Yarrat road, one of the most scenic sections of road around here.
After we hit the Kendall road the weather set in again with vengeance and it pissed down as we made our way through Bago and back toward Wauchope.

A good mornings riding saw us do 150km in some atrocious conditions but it was enjoyable enough and still better than working. I am glad I went now.

Hey Puddles, you and Toes are lucky I am a good fella, I had you both lined up a beauty for a roosting at the start of Link Road and then I remembered a VStrom headlight is about $400. That is all that saved you pair, then Toes filled you in anyhow. :woohoo:
