Yesterday arvo Moose and I decided we would do a bit of a dual sport run this morning. WE hadn’t decided on a route at that stage ,so this morning with the help of google maps a plan was hatched.
We both had to be back at about lunch time so the plan was to rack up as many km’s we could in a short period of time.
The plan was for me to meet Moose at his place at 8am and go from there,as I am a early riser I was chomping at the bit at 6.30 am so I kitted up and did a quick loop in Bago to warm up, eventually arriving at Moose’s at 7.30 am. A quick cuppa and we were gone, headed for Cairncross state forest. This forest doesn’t see much traffic, just enough to keep the trails clear and fun. After dodging the plague of cicadas in Cairncross we dropped back onto Rollands plains road for a tar road run of about 10 km before we hit the gravel road again which leads up into Bellengarra Nat park. This area also doesn’t see much action and the fire trails were covered in leaves and great fun.

A quick durrie stop and we were off again.

WE had been travelling due north for a while before the bush opened up to suburbia, not suburbia like we know it though,we found ourselves in a Place called Burnt Bridge,an Aboriginal community.
As we tentatively motored up the road we were amused to see a group of about 9 “brothers” all huddled around a carton of VB like it was a campfire having a right hoot of a time and it was only just 9am.

We managed to get out alive and met the Pacific Highway in Kempsey, a quick fuel stop and drink and we were off again. I think Mooses spokey dokes saved us from any harm

Next stop was Kram140’s place next to the Limeburrners Nat Park.

    SDC10005.jpg

A quick stop for a yarn and tour of the flower growing operations and we were headed into the Nat Park keen to try a loop that Kram put us onto.

The Nat Park is Coastal heath/swamp,so you are basically riding in rutile sand which is awesome fun. Here are some of the pics I took.

Some of the bog holes are deeper than they look.

    SDC10009.jpg

WE saw some wildlife and frightened a dingo bitch and a litter of cubs,This owl wasn’t keen to be friends.

    SDC10010.jpg

Krams secret loop was a cracker and I cant wait to get back there again.
Next on the agenda was a hot run down Plommer road, 11 kms of whoops and sand blows, anyone who has done Plommer rd Knows how much fun Moose and I had today.
    Moose enjoyed it

    Back at the ferry

    SDC10014.jpg

Unfortunately we had to do a run through one off the main streets in Port Macquarie to get out of town again (crap part of the ride)

A quick run through Cowarra state forest on the way home saw us back at Moose’s having a beer at 12.30pm after doing 184km for the morning.

A awesome loop for a cruisy morning ride.

Great report Mick! I did most of the trails you did last weekend with Kram, great fun isnt it. B) We will have to do it again in Xmas break. I was impressed with his neighbours (Stegs)Tea tree oil distilling operation ;)

That was exactly what I was thinking when I plotted this route, although the Limeburners section would be very suss if we have had any rain. You can see how deep the bog holes are and it has been pretty dry here as of late.

I have another big loop in the mountains planned should it be wet.

Yesterdays loop has at least 40km of tar but I think I can cut a bit of that out with Kram and Ollies help.Instead of crossing back over the ferry we would go up the Maria river road and cut across into Kundabung and back to Wauchope that way adding a heap more Km’s.

Yeah Mick Kram and I preroad the trails and got permission from one of the land owners It would make an awsome ride. You could even use my olds place as a fuel/Food stop instead of going into south Kempsey. I think Fossils input would be very useful as well. I can get us to Old coast rd on the Pacific Hwy no problems at all.

That would be sweet Ollie, if you can get us to the Old Cost road,I can get us home from there.

Proposed route for a great loop.

Bago into Cowarra, over Jolly nose to Lake Cathie(will need Puddles input here on how to get to Port Macquarie from Lake Cathie with minimal tar).Maybe a beach run.

Over Ferry and up Plommer road, turn into Limeburners and do Krams loop. Then up to Crescent Head pub for lunch and a run up the beach towards Hat head before returning to Maria river to cross the highway, onto the old Coast road.Thence back via Rollands Plains via Bull’s place and up to Bellangry and then down to Beechwood and Wauchope, all up about 240km.
Epic loop with a bit of everything. :woohoo:

Trouble is with your route Strucky is to be legal you will need on of those permits from the council and you have to watch out for camels too.

I was talking to a fellow down the shops on Saturday & apparently there is a track from the footy oval coming out just before the golf course. I will ask him again & check it out.
there is also suppose to be a track from the ghost rd coming out near the lake cuts out more tar apparently its a track Hollis use to use
