    Wauchope/Byabarra to Coopernook 12/09/09

The Rowan and a few of his mates from the Central coast, were keen for a Blast from Byabarra to Wauchope then onto Harrington for an overnight stay at the pub.
I was unable to do the whole ride due to the fact it was my wedding anniversary, so I thought I might join them for the Byabarra to Wauchope leg, and Tripper decided he might tag along too.
Tripper and I kitted up at my shed at 7am and head off to The Rowans place at Byabarra. This involved a 16km run on the Oxley Highway, which was quite invigorating at that time of the morning, especially when we passed through gullies as MX jerseys don’t offer much protection from the cold.
We arrived at Rowans after a run in with a big mob of Eastern Grey Roos, that were doing their best impersonation of chooks with their heads cut off, unpredictable beasts they are.
A quick cuppa to warm up was a welcome treat, while we waited for the boys to finish kitting up and we were on our way.
    There was a varied selection of bikes on this ride;
    XR650
    XR600
    XR250
    KTM450
    Husaberg 450
And two WR450’s one of which only had 72km on the clock.

Rowan’s property backs onto the Bago state forest and is the perfect spot for dirt bikes, he has an awesome enduro loop on his place with nice loamy, leaf littered trails leading to his back gate. Once we got out of his back gate,we headed towards Wauchope which involves a cracker of a hill climb, which had the boys huffing and puffing at the top.
It soon became obvious to me, we were actually running the trails I do on my Comboyne rock loop, only we were doing them backwards, which was like riding brand new trails.
At the top of the first hill Rowan handed me the reins and asked me to lead the boys through some of the single trails he hadn’t done before.
So straight away I decided a run down Kakoda trail would be a good warm up for the boys, from there it was into Little Jurrasic park, up onto Bago and a run down Wilcox trail into big Jurrasic over the log ramp, which I will add, that the boys didn’t baulk at all at the dodgy looking ramp set up over the log and they all hit it at full steam and made it look easy.
Then it was a hot run through the blackboy trail and onto ten ditch. We had a rest at the end of the Black boy run and I saw something I have never seen on the trails before, Darryl dives into his backpack and produces a can of rum and proceeded to slam it down, with the excuse he is diabetic and needed a sugar fix!!!!
From there we did a quick run to Huntington, into the fence trail and down Rutzilla eventually making it to Wauchope at 11am so the lads could fuel up again. The boys were starting to look a tad second hand and the day was getting hot and I thought to myself that they had a long day ahead of them, considering they had another 70-80km of trails to go before they got to Harrington Pub!! This is where Tripper and I bade them farewell and headed of to my shed for a beer or two.
Maybe the boys, upon their return can add more to this report as I am sure there would be more to this story. Cheers Boys,it was good to meet you and share the trails for the morning.

    Hey Fellas
Yes we made it to HARRINGTON PUB, FROM YOU MICK WE MOTORED ALONG THE TRACK THAT FOLLOWS bago RD, ducked along the Highway fro a tad , then onto Herosn Creek rd and Into BULLS GROUND withthe aim of ending up at the bottom of Middle Brother mountain and picking up another rider- on a DRZ 400,,,, hit the trails through middle brother, VERY BONEY AND BLOOODY STEEP!!!!!, old mate on the xr 250 had a come off on a incline, so we had to get him going again, only to have the ktm , start blowing oil from the breather!!!???,Another rider joined us at this moment ( Craig) on a CRF 450,,,, however with one bike running a bit low on its bodily fluid- we had to make a b line through to coopernook on the dirt roads ( with the odd bit old single in there for good measure.

All in all we made it through to Harro pub close to 5pm- only to finsh about 4am sunday morning ( After the pub finished we were all invited back to a beach party which we all found difficult to refuse), which changed our itinerary the following day- there were some sorry heads – and riding wasnt high on the agenda!!! so slow ride up the beach from Crowdy to Katies hut and on to kew- from here through the bush back home to Byabarra.

Next trip i will stick to light beer, and finsh of with the queesn lake and bonny hills section
