After riding in Darwin last year with my friend Clint he moved to Queensland so we said we would meet halfway sometime soon and do a 2 day ride.
We ended up with a plan to meet micknmeld and fossil, who are Wauchope locals, and do a couple of day rides out of Wauchope. It wasn’t exactly half way but Wauchope has some of the best riding in NSW so Clint just had to drive a bit further
Clint has just joined the ranks of Adventure riders, gentlemen riders he calls them, so we kept it as a low key ride without asking everyone we could think of to come along.
Here we are ready to set off, micknmeld, Adam, fossil, Clint and MalWe stayed at Breckenridge Farm stay about 2kms out of Wauchope and it’s a great place to base yourself at … (plug)
For once I just tagged along in the group and didn’t know where we were going next, that didn’t stop me from looking at as many road signs as possible and getting briefed by Mick when we stopped.First taste of the trails, a bit dusty but the weather was perfect
Fossil
Clint
First stop was the lookout at Bago Bluff, looking west towards Werrikimbe National Park.
Looking north over the Oxley Hwy west of Wauchope.
Looking east towards Wauchope and the ocean.
Adam, Mal, Clint, Fossil and Mick at the lookout.
Mal on the trail further on.
Clint followed by Fossil.
Adam over a log further on.
The next one was a bit slippery, I told Adam that I wouldn’t post this photo but I lied
On the way again.
Next stop was Comboyne rock, the landform in the middle of the photo is Bago Bluff.
Looking west to Comboyne.
Mick led us into a trail he called the Bat cave, it looked promising.
But this tree had fallen over the trail
So we turned around and headed back out.
We came out of Bago forest and rode along Koppin Yarrat rd with this view towards Landsdowne along the way.
Looking back at Mal and the others on Koppin Yarrat rd.
One of the best things about riding with a true local is getting access to old trails through private property, this is one of those.
Looking south towards Wingham and Taree from the private property.
Coming out onto the main road after riding through the farm.
Next stop was Ellenborough Falls for lunch at the kiosk and a look at one of the highest falls in Australia.
After lunch we headed for Long Flat for petrol and a cool drink.
Adam at the top of Toms Creek rd.Mal at the bottom.
Heading out toward the Oxley Hwy on Toms Creek rd.
After a cool drink at long Flat Pub we rode over the Hastings River on the suspension bridge on Kindee rd.
Next we turned into Pipeclay rd and headed for Wauchope.
Pipeclay road was a fun road winding for miles along the valley, Mick took off and I was at the rear after taking a photo of everyone.
Then I had a ball chasing as hard as was sensible to catch him.
Soon we were back at our accommodation watching the sunset.Next morning we wasted no time in riding down a greasy hill that had me slipping over at the bottom and Adam slipping over at the top.
Adam picking his bike up.
Mal lining up the rut and keeping enough speed to make it over the erosion hump after the mudhole.
Then there was another mudhole straight after the erosion hump …
Next thing Mick took us on a trail that wound it’s way beside a creek bed among the trees.
It’s an old overgrown trail with a bridge that is almost gone, but just enough left to get a bike through
After zigzagging our way across the Pacific Hwy we started to climb to a trig station.
Clint with the DR powering along.
Mal
The view from the top, looking towards Laurieton and Perpendicular point
Adam on the way back down.
Mal
We headed for Wauchope now as Clint and Mal had a 7 hour drive ahead of them.
Along the way we stopped to watch a few minutes of a local road race club on the Go Kart track.
Check the lean on this guy.Next we stopped for a quick look at a MX race at the local track.
For anyone who follows MX that is Danny Anderson on the far right.
Now we headed for Wauchope and I got to ride close enough to Mick to get a photo of him too.
Last photo is Mal following Mick into a small creek crossing a few minutes from home.
We packed up, showered and said our goodbyes and headed for home.
Thanks Mick for putting together a couple of fun days with a nice mix of tight and open trails and Fossil for sweeping on the first day.
Thanks also to Clint and Mal for driving down from Queensland and Adam for picking me up at work and driving there.
Another great weekend of riding with a great bunch of blokes in one of the best riding areasMay 21, 2013 at 7:33 am #242232Nice sneaky run there guys
I understand why it is necesary sometimes to keep a trip on the downlow ,,,Mick has one of the most diverse backyards on OBT I reckon all reasonably close in klms too !!!
And he is a character for sure and I`m sure made you all feel very welcome, as would have Baz & Shirl & Breckenridge (how good is that place) ????? :woohoo:Anyway, I heard from a little birdy that I rode with on Sunday where you guys were and I must admit,,, I was a tad jealous ,,, until we got into our own adventure with a cappucino, trails, scenery, singles, awsome pub lunch, followed by some whooped out sandy trails, back into some singles before a ripper run back over the Watagans and home
 just over 200k in 5 hrs 😆
Thanx for sharing your report here Mark,,,
They are always good to read & check out the pics !!!May 21, 2013 at 8:59 am #242233Hanging for a ride after reading that one :woohoo:
