We only had 4 starters as there was a big ride on at Coffs that a lot of the local boys attended.
Crippy on his DRZ250
Tripper on the CAT XR600
Dean Gas Gas 450
Me XR600.
Crippy lead the ride and lead us through some of his secret single trail that virtually starts at his front door.
The DRZ was in its element in there and there was no way we could keep up with him on the big thumpers, through the tight stuff.
WE rode to the top of Bago via the She Oak trail and Crippy had a moment in there and had an off, he emerged from the trail with She oak needles stuck all over him and the bike, no harm done though.
As we have had no decent rain for a while it was pretty dusty and some trails had turned to bull dust which was slippery as hell and limited visability.
To avoid the dust we made our way down to the more rain forested sections and managed to find some new trails and some mud to play in.
Tripper was on fire and was riding hard all day and was hard to catch on the more open sections, it must have been the snappy stubbie he had just before we left!!
We found a couple of newly cut in trails we did our bit to open up a bit more and they have the makings of some good fun in the future.
The last one was a bit gnarly down a slippery hill into the rain forest then up a windy trail to the top that tested us a bit. Tripper lost his stand spring halfway up which was causing him some grief so we had to stop while he removed the stand.
From there the hill got a bit tricky and Dean got the Gasser stuck up ahead of me and while I waited for the boys to get him and the bike up the last section, the XR got hot as hades and the clutch fried and stalled the old girl, so I had to wait until it cooled down a bit as I had no clutch at all and the lever was coming right back to the bars and there was nothing there, which was concerning me a little as I could see what was up ahead and it wasn’t pretty.
Once the XR cooled a little I managed to get a bit of clutch happening, so I surveyed what was up ahead and hit it fully pinned Kamakazi style and made it through with out having to touch the clutch.
Once I got to the top I helped the boys get the Gasser out of were it was stuck and Crippy rode it through the last bit even though he looked like he was busted and about to have a heart attack!!!
Once at the top we decided it was beer o’clock and we made our way back to Crippy’s place for some refreshments and a ride debrief.
All in all, another fun day out in dirt bike paradise.
