Sat 27th ride report
Well about two weeks ago on my way to Brisbane I dropped my XR650 and choppers CRF 450 of at Micks for a ride on my return from Brisbane..
I arrived at Micks about 10pm on the Friday nite only to find a well lubricated Mick and KTM Rat in Micks shed. So after a few cold bundies and talking some shat we went to bed at 1.30am
Up way to early we suited up and waited for rider X, we got under way about 8.30 ish we headed out onto the dirt. We headed into forest and onto some amazing tracks, nice flowing twin trail, it was just damp enough under foot to keep the dust down and make some of the hills a challenge. Rider X and Tripper started giving it to me about the roost coming from the rear of the BRP, rider X claimed to have been hit by flying debris some incredible distance behind me, I was copping a fair bit myself from Micks new tyre, not used to not leading and was staying glued to Micks tail close enough at time that I hit his rear wheel twice. We did the little single line section called Jurassic Park at the end of it X decided to have a little lay down when he wrong footed stopping at the end.
We rode some great tracks, and it was at this time I saw the most unbelievable crash and witnessed commitment behind the call of duty, here’s my recall of the incident.
Tripper had taken the lead and I was determined to stay on his tail, now I had never seen tripper in action hard on the gas and I tell you it was a sight to behold, his riding style on the hill was fast but loose! Guys if you looked up loose on Google it would have a picture of tripper riding the cat 630!
I was trying to get past him as the stuff coming out the rear was bad I ended up with a rock inside my helmet! So there we are going way way hard and it started to go pear shaped for old tripper, most of us shut it of when it gets out of shape but tripper just kept it pinned, I witnessed the bike fly of the side of the a windrow and travel somehow through the air becoming horizontal and go through the trees, it needs to be mentioned here that tripper kept both feet on the pegs (both pegs) whilst flying horizontaly into the trees. I stopped tripper was unhurt somehow and we got under way again.
We went to the rock look out thing and I gave Mick a ride of the 650, we continued home, it worth mentioning also that rider X lead the way home for most of it, I worked hard staying on the rear of the little 250 it was a great challenge as you had to feed the power on so slowly and gently as it was so slippery in spots and the BRP went well in the tighter stuffI had to go home a day early so didn’t get to test the 450 and enjoy another days riding. Pictures will be supplied by Mick
Thanks Mick for the accommodation and the trails, Tripper for the entertainment, and rider X for the extra trails and the challenge of the chase, cheers boys cant wait to come back!

September 27, 2008 at 11:29 pm #108626AS TB said when he arrived at 10pm I had a bit of a skinfull as there had been blokes coming and going all evening and it didn’t help that when he arrived he had a carton of rum cans under his arm!! By 1.30am we were well and truly juiced up and with a 8.30 am start decided upon we hit the hay. What were we thinking????????
Up at 6am feeling like shit I dunked my head in the pool and had a feed and was feeling a little better than I deserved when we kitted up and headed out the gate at 8.20am.
It wasn’t long into the ride that I had my first “moment” over a contour mound and found myself with my feet higher than my helmet for a short while and that is when TB took the opportunity to pass me. On the next mound up the hill TB gassed the BRP and sent a semi load of rocks skyward that rained down on me like a meteor storm, I have never in my life been roost on like that!! That bike can certainly throw some big rocks!!
11km into the ride the front brake caliper on Trippers XR actually fell of and was flapping around by the hose so,luckily RiderX (McGyver) Had a bolt to fit and the other one we robbed from the triple clamp on the CAT XR and we were soon underway again.
It wasn’t long after that that TB confirmed my suspicions that he is in fact a bastard, while I was trying to negotiate a large bog hole in a such fashion as to stay dry, TB lined me up and hit it at full song and soaked me to the core, it is also at that moment I realised that he is the king of the shit eating grin!!!
Trippers big moment followed not long after with him heading bush in spectacular fashion, that is why we painted the bike Caterpillar yellow!!!
Tripper has only two speeds, Throttle on or throttle and rider both off!!!
Later in the ride RiderX lead for a while and I rode as sweep and it was during this time we came across a log across the trail that every one hit at speed and made it look easy so I did the same and my attempt went to shyte and I was thrown over the hangers, dusting up the family jewels in the process, that had me sucking some deep breaths for a while.
The night’s before shananigans were starting to take their toll on TB and me by 1pm and we decided we had had enough and we made our way back to my place so TB could pack up and make the 4hr drive home. All up we did 116km for the day.
Here are some pics from the dayMick Tripper and TB at Comboyne Rock
A short break while Tripper gathers his senses after his big off.

AnonymousLooks like Warchop is a nice place to ride. Nice read.
Mick, I see in the pic of you guys up at the Comboyne Rock lookout, that you seem to be wearing the new EVS neckbrace. What intrigues me though is what looks like a shiny chromed skullcap you must be wearing, as it is reflecting the sunlight. Is that some sort of head protection?

It’s for speed Nigel……Unfortunately I don’t think it works, the shinier it gets the slower I get…
September 28, 2008 at 9:29 am #108629
AnonymousRather than make it shinier, you could always draws little pictures of rabbits on it. From a distance, they would look like hares.
September 28, 2008 at 9:33 am #108635Heard that one before, pretty well heard them all actually but if you have a new one feel free to throw it out there:laugh:
Being a Souths supporter I probably could get away with rabbits on my head.
September 28, 2008 at 10:06 am #108636Hey Mick I am looking forward to you product report on the EVS brace, coming from your paper job it should be world class! (no pressure)

There’s not many 600’s around with only 7000k on the clock. She is only just run in.
I feel lucky then, to get a ride on your fire breathing beast.I have to admit when I got back on my 600 she did feel a bit old school. The fiddy felt more like a motocrosser and now I can see why you are so quick on the bloody thing. It was a pity though that on the only single trail opportunity I had on it, I was carrying a steel 20 litre fuel drum.
September 28, 2008 at 11:28 pm #108643
AnonymousI was going to ask the where the hell you got the fuel drum from! TB will have panniers next, those 50/50 tyres and will be leading ‘Trailtours’ up and down the roads out West:P

TB will not have panniers or heading up and down the roads out west, I see we have to get out in the forest and sort this out Moto. No 50/50 tyres either
