was a little bit late ( sorry about that Mick) but the Mayor was paitently waiting when we got there , some excellent country was a great ride well worth the trip, the weather was perfect and it wasnt to wet so thanks to Mick for leading and Moose for sweeping ( sorry about spraying you moose but you did tell me to enjoy ) and pete the wulf for keeping me honest on the logs( if only I had a camera hey pete !!!) and Daniel and leon had a ball as well so im sure Mick and Pete have some good photos and will have a bit to add to the ride report so Thanks again to all that made it today as again was good ride and top bunch of blokes.
December 28, 2010 at 8:58 am #193601It was a great run! Perfect conditions albiet the bushes were very wet for the lead rider.
No need to worry about being late Husky, anyone that is prepared to drive 2+ hours for a 7am start ride and drive home again deserves a bit of slack a far as start times are concerned.
Have just uploaded the few pics I took today and will do a report of sorts later.
Thanks to all who came and rode today. Fun wasn’t it?? I love riding Bago and Comboyne.
December 28, 2010 at 10:26 am #193605The report
What a great way to spend a day!!
I arrived at the designated meeting spot to find Pete the wulf (PTW) already there chomping at the bit, it wasn’t long before Moose turned up in his new ride gear. Looks a bit like Santa to me, not so much the red and white theme but the big Xmas gut he is sporting at the moment.
He then did a Haka for us.
That is when Pete’s phone rang and it was Huskybloke (also known as Brad who’s real name is Ian) To say he was running a little late. We cut him some slack and patiently waited. We stood around and admired a hot looking bike while we waited.
Huskybloke arrived with a couple of his mates with him Daniel and Leon (both on big Huskies)and intro’s were done and it was time to hit the trails.
Conditions were near perfect as far as I was concerned, best part of an inch of rain during the night made it nice and moist. Fog sections also made the day. (I love riding in Fog).
A quick run up the face of Bago had us hitting some tight and wet singles before we hit the top of Bago, we then dropped back into the valley via Big Jurassic park and down to the big log.
Like always I hit it sweet and made myself look like a gun (pity no one saw it)
The other boys were all brave and hit it not knowing what was on the other side.
PTW nailed it with no regard for his pipe.
Leon on the 510 did it easy, like he did all day…can peddle good this fella.
Huskybloke got over it too.
Daniel had two goes. I was later to find out that it was his 2nd trailride in 15 years. He did bllody good on the new 450.
From there we did a ton of singles that I have managed to link up, just near Comboyne rock PTW got a flat front tyre and we stopped to fix it, or watch him fix it more like.
He missed his minute but did OK with what he had to work with.
Like a fancy factory stand.
Waiting…….. Waiting
While we waited we could here a bike approaching, when a rider on a brand new Husky 449 pulled up for a yarn. At first with the helmet on I didn’t recognise him but it was one of my wives cousins who I hadn’t seen for at least 10 years We checked out the bike, which was only hours old.
Pretty awesome machine!!
Anyhow he was heading to Wauchope so he tagged along with us for the rest of the day, he is real good OBT material too. Just done the cape and a heap of other stuff.
We managed to link up some more trails toward Herons Creek and then back over Bago. It was right on top of Bago that I got well and truey Jousted by a big stick that went through my jersey, hit my pressure suit and speared up and under my helmet, which sent me and the XR careering into the scrub, I only just managed to hang onto the pig and keep her up right. I do believe there are photos of me in the scrub on someones camera.
We eventually arrived back at the Cemetery around 1pm, farewells where said and Moose, PTW and I retired to my shed for an ale. And debrief.
After Pete left I jumped on the NX and headed for Comboyne to meet up with TB and Salina who are road tripping on the Tenere. I meet up with them at Comboyne in the mist and rain and we stopped at the café for a yarn. Then onto some mutuals friend’s place where we fiddled with a RMZ250 for a while over another beer. Then I headed off and ended up at Moose’s place for another beer and de brief before heading home to a baked dinner……Shit life is good!!!
Thanks to all that helped make it a great day!!!
December 28, 2010 at 10:39 pm #193602Great report Mick! The log certainly looked daunting. That is funny about Huskybloke who rides a KTM who’s name is Ian as well as Brad. That 449 Husky was very nice looks like we are going back to the fad that side covers be not there or are very small. I think I remember ADB removing the side covers on a KDX in the mid 80,s to give it that look. I also noticed there is no kick start… look after your battery then. Unless it has a kick start and they have gone back to the bad old days of TE410 with the left sided one that goes forward. But no BMW would not do that
December 29, 2010 at 10:32 am #193615Another great ride.
I arrived early cause I love this place, it truly is gods country but unfortunately I’m not aloud to move there ( yes I did ask the wife ).
This is just a quick thank you to Mick and Moose for a great ride and I hope I can make the ride on the 2nd.
I will post some pics when I get home.

January 3, 2011 at 1:35 pm #193603Hey guys, first ride on my new TE449 and I meet up with a cool crew like you guys, thx for the great ride to Wauchope through some awesome trails, there is no dout the local community is so lucky to have such a bloody good place to play. This tells me the bike is a sign of some great time to be had.
The new bike was great and yeh a kick starter missing could be an issue but well on the old TE510 it wasn’t a joy to kick start it, or even clutch it, I found a set of small jumpers handy if you battery is cactus. I guess as long as you still have compression, fuel, a spark plug wrench to undrown the bike if the unthinkable happens, and the battery is good (dont leave the bike in the shed too long without riding it) , she should start first go.
Besides the tire problem, really tire pressure, the bike felt great, ‘had an interesting ride back to comboyne as I didn’t have Mick , or any sun for direction but eventually found the Rock and cruised on to my farm at Comboyne.Followed on the next few days and found the trails dryer and a bit faster, soooo good is Bago and the hill climbs like no others
Thanks for introducing me to this forum and look forward to catching up again
Hey am check out the shot of the cape trip, the best ride/trip, love to go again soon especially with the new masterbuilt TE449

To upload pics the best way is via a photo hosting site like photobucket.
Here is a tutorial.
Photobucket tutorialJanuary 4, 2011 at 6:17 am #193814Well i am home now and able to post some pics, Mick is getting cranky cause im too slow.
Some pics didnt turn out too well but some special one made it.Leon when he was going slow enough to be able to get a pic.
This is Huskybloke after he took a involantary left hand turn.
Moose doing it easy over a slippery log
Almost Huskybreet2smokebrad-ian
Huskybloke hates slippery logs almost as much as he hates me with a camera.
Im just glad that i didnt have any problems on any logs, no problems at all, not one, floated through i did.We are on the trail and Mick…….well he is not.
Still trying to get it out.
