Snowy try and ride a wr250 and a Kato 250 before you purchase, never know you may like one of those better than the crf..
Chris.
June 11, 2012 at 11:23 pm #223904Now slow down there Chris I’ve owned a Kato 250 and it’s no bike for an “old” bull. You old blokes like bikes with bottom end and these don’t fit the bill.
Refer to my previous post. Sure test ride all you like. My first ride of my 250 was one of very few moments in my life I said to myself “Axel WTF have you done?”.
DRZ -> 250-exf will be even worse. You ride it like a 125. A WR250 is a much nicer motor for trailriding. Don’t get me wrong my last 3 bikes were Katos. Trust me.June 12, 2012 at 12:11 am #223930If I was gunna go all soft and buy a 250 I would buy the WR. Only from what I have seen and heard over the years.

Trust me.I went from a drz400 to a ktm250excf and I have never been happier, Yeah I stir a lot about now owning a kato and all that stuff, but in all seriousness, since the turncoat swap ,my trail riding has improved 10 fold and I actualy love having a go at the technical stuff now. I get back to the cars a feeling real fresh and the motor in my kato is great for how I ride.

June 12, 2012 at 12:40 am #223974I can’t believe I forgot Krusty, he has gone from docilez to ktm 350 and loves it like a brother from another mother..
WR250 had an 08 model and hated it more than when my dog shits on tb’s leg… na that was funny.
KTM250 never ridden one but I suspect it would be awesome as it is a ktm and ktm don’t make anything shit these days. You’ve also got the husky 310, you could see if you could get a test ride with ROCK Motorcycles.
Cheers
Chris.June 12, 2012 at 2:50 am #223765Mat from bikes and bits lent me the 2012 crf 450 x demo for this ride as my 250 was away. Thanks very much again. Following snowy in the pine singles was much harder on the 450.snowy rode twice as quick as I had ever seen him in such conditions compared to the drz. I found the 4 much more taxing on the arms and you had to metre the power out as it wanted to live on the back wheel. On the other hand when going up cuddle hill I had to use the brakes on a small kink and at one time I hit ludicrous speed. A 450 is so good at putting a smile on your dial. Very fun I was so in love with the 450 then. Also while stuck on a slippery hill I found the smooth 250 power better at hooking up and less prone to harsh cough stop. Horses for courses. If you want to see where the 450 really starts to make sense find a road with lots of traction and I do mean lots. And put a 250 against a 4. and see what gear it starts to pull away. We found it was from the top end of third on. In sand the 450 ate the 250. The move to the 250 is also better for me at the moment as my gut us getting larger and in my current state of un fittness it is more friendly. If you are a goon buy the 450 as goon riding is much better with lots of power. Just my 2 cents. On the ride though I had a great time and the people were great fun to hang around. As per usual. Thanks to all Charlie and I had a ball. Also great job on the singles snowy tack and dahmis. Loved it
June 12, 2012 at 2:58 am #223766Chris you need to ride one. I wont say their shit, just not for everyone.
Boony sure you have one and love it yes nice. Ride it back to back with the other choices and lets go from there.
They are good at what they are designed for and I think there is nobody on this site that I know can ride them properly, even me. Moral of the story is test ride them before deciding.
