Hello People of the OBT world..
For a few months now i have been searching the internet waves of information for a resource to find rides & local riders to do you know, adventuring stuff with. maybe ive found just a place???
I am a fella that goes by the name of sharpie, i ride a 2008 DRZ 400E (my first dirt bike) with a 17lt safari tank. Previously i owned a Honda CBR 250RR about 10 years ago had a accident & stayed off the bike for sometime. Last year i decided it was time to get back on..
My current place of residence is the ever wonderful & exciting Blue Mountains, Valley Heights.
The love of rock i found within my self initially brought me up to Katoomba about 6years ago to climb & work as an outdoors adventure guide, in rock climbing/canyoning/Navigation & bush survival. Nowadays i work in the rope access industry. (pretty dull compared to my last role), but what this means is that i generally get weekdays & some weekends off when im not away with work. So, i guess my goal here is to say hi to everybody & let you know about my self, my ride & what i like riding. On that note, so far I THINK i have explored much of what the lower mountains has to offer from Hazelbrook to Gleenbrook & now want to to head further up the hill. (im trying to satay away from Newns as ive driven most of the 4WD trails there already, & its really bussy on weekends).
I really enjoy trails, single or fire, ups, downs, lefts, rights & anything in-between. i would rate my riding ability as average but confident learning something every time i ride. Spent a lot of time on leg powered MTBs. Hoping to build skills on the bike in conjunction with navigation, working towards participation in a APC rally or such.
I hold a current Remote area first aid ticket & have a complete wilderness first aid kit (previously held wilderness fierst aid for 6 years but let it laps so back to the beginning i had to go).
Ide be keen to find some like minded individual/couples to ride with, find some fun adventures in new places & generally have a good time while doing it.
STAY UP RIGHT
SharpieMarch 11, 2013 at 2:36 am #237987Sharpie welcome and great intro there. Very flexible bike the DR, there are a heap of blokes here with “extended” experience of them (who may be riding other bikes but still secretly love them).
I’d say there are also many who have experience riding your way. If you like riding the tight tracks there are a heap of trails on the western side that are not so busy. CheersMarch 11, 2013 at 3:03 am #237991Welcome Sharpie ol mate. I am just next door at Blaxland and am sure if you are thinking APC etc I can help you out. I have actually help set the APC tracks between Gunning area and Wauchope so I know what you are going to be up against. You need to get into the two navigation series rides to fine tune your gps skills per APC as well
Thanks for doing an intro
TB
March 11, 2013 at 3:29 am #237993Welcome Sharpie and thanks for the intro! The DRZ’s are a very capable bikes! A saw some getting some terrible treatment on the weekend actually.
If you are think APC, TB is the man whose ear you should chew.
Cheers
MickMarch 11, 2013 at 3:36 am #237994Welcome Sharpie
Reading your intro made me look at a couple of pics I have on the loungeroom wall
One of a mate (Mal5.1) and me standing on top of the second sister and the other me leading Exhibition Wall at Mt York. We no longer climb but do miss the buzz ticking off climbs all around the Blueys, Nowra and Watagans. :woohoo: :woohoo:
Anyway we have been into dirt bikes for the past 10 years andthis site is great for hooking up or organising your own rides. I’m sure you’ll meet heaps of new friends as I have done.
If your keen for a bit of adventure sign up for one of my sons and my rides. Can show you around most of the gnarlier sections of the Watagans
Cheers

I’m in the Hunter Valley, and always happy to show people around.
For sure have a look at the Navigational ride series…….you might just get hooked.
