I do wince a little when I see guys put plastic containers (like Rotopax) on the outside of their pannier racks.
A simple slide down the road can quickly become “Last flight of the Concorde” as grinding metal ignites more than just the imagination.

Yeah great fairy tale havent heard of it happening  , look yes it could happen and also with the ugly big safari tank on a 690 or on a DR650 with a safari tank, your 690 with the twin tanks could happen or most bikes in the right circumstanes couldnt it?
I would add that most times you require the use of rotopax for extra fuel range you are traveling somewhere decent and more than one day. You would also require some other odds and sods like clothing etc and then your Andys or Wolfmans will be over your rotopax ;)

Check this thread out for some ideas we carried 4 litres per bike no dramas safely no chance of getting fuel in your camelback either

Slightly of topic, but close enough i have a spare tank from the first owner getting a warrenty replacement, was wondering if anyones heated and expanded one out? i have read about the older style tanks taking this treatment, but this tank has a large curve molded in which makes it strong down the sides where the shroud opening is. If they could be expanded theres some more range there to be had.

recently purchased a fuel bladder/drink cell back pack from Ballards, fuel bladder 3.5ltr & 2ltr camelbak.
Fits well and the bag is pretty generous size, can get up to a 8ltr bladder into back pack.

I can fit 3.5ltr fuel, 2ltr water, spare goggles, gloves, rain coat in bag easy.
    Cost around $160 bucks.

Thats a fair load of fuel in there wrsteve,i would be tempted to go the bigger tank if i was after that much range. I’m liking the lower weight in my pack now i trashed my 3L liner and have only got a 2L now.

Do the new yammi’s like a drink? My issue is fuel pump placement doesn’t fully run the tank out leaving heaps in the sides, dodgy design.
