Here is what I did Saturday, while it was pelting with rain.
I pulled the bent arse end of the XR, to straighten things out after my little one wheeled foray down the road
Then I got thinking maybe I should see if I can shed some weight off the old girl , by getting rid of the secondary subframe that holds the tail light assembly and the ten ton stock muffler and replace it with another I have in the shed.
here is how it would look if I go ahead and finish the project, your thoughts??
I will have to get some pipe bent to connect it up, so I haven’t heard how it sounds.
What do you guys reckon,,should I do it? Or should I just purchase a proper after market pipe?

AnonymousThat’s a standard KTM pipe isn’t it Mick? Has the KTM muffler been modified to remove the complicated baffle arrangement that forms part of the end cap? The Stnadard end cap is restrictive moving gasses from a 450, let alone a 600. If you put that pipe on you should at least sort the end cap out.
Take it off and you will see what I mean. Other than that, have a go, what do you have to lose
December 14, 2008 at 11:45 pm #114786Yeah, Moto that pipe has already had the end cap mod done.

AnonymousStick it on then, she’ll be alright. If it flows enough gas on the 530 it should be fine on the 600.
December 14, 2008 at 11:51 pm #114799It will still need some dicking around to get it to fit. A job which I will probably have to farm out and actually have to pay someone.
December 14, 2008 at 11:53 pm #114800yeah Mick all good
but for Farks sake put a sticker over that ktm one will ya:laugh:ollie

AnonymousWould still be cheaper than buying an aftermarket one though eh? They gotta rush you around $600. What does it need, a bracket bent/welded up?

yep I could do it in a flash, but unless it gets to me by thursday Morning ya aint got a chance. It really is a lot easier if you had your bike there as well, best bet is to mark out the shape of your brackets on some stiff gasket paper or cardboard.make your brackets from 4-5 mm alloy then use a piece of wire to determine the correct bend of the inlet pipe,or supply the old pipe as a template. Maybe someone like Luke (gassit) could help you out.
December 15, 2008 at 12:30 am #114808THanks Ollie, I have a bloke in mind to do the job.

AnonymousSee Ollie has fixed it for you and isn’t even close! What a star :p
Hey Mick, there is a few nice looking XR’s on eBay at the mo’. It’s not going to help you fix your bike but I know how you like to collect bikes
December 15, 2008 at 12:47 am #114814I think The 3 XR600’s I have in the shed will do for the time being.
