Yeah, they are both on eBay. The first one has a starting price of $1K and a ‘Buy it Now’ of only $1500. Looks loved too. The second one, XR650L is a 2003 with only 10,700K’s on it.

You’ll have to wait until you get home before you bid on it :p

Back on Topic Mick, before you spend any $ on this job I would think about the work that pipe manufacturers do when developing a pipe for a bike. I know staintune for example will have a bike for a week working on the pipe and the air flow etc dyno running, getting back pressures etc right. I know everybody’s poo pooing me now but just saying is all ok

In my humble opinion, not that it seems to count for much, I don’t think that you should try to modify and fit this muffler to your bike. It is something that I, personally, would never contemplate doing.

If I were ever to do such a modification, I would probably acquire the mid pipe of the standard setup, as it already has the designed bends and mounting points. It is just a simple case of attaching the muffler to the mid pipe and making sure that it is not twisted. That would look dumb.

My advice, should you decide to listen to it or not, is to spend huge amounts of money on an aftermarket system, which at the end of the day, probably will make fark all difference to the performance of the motorcycle in question. The only benefit would maybe be in the area of weight saving. If this is really an issue, just have have a big dump before you ride. This is worth a kilo or two.

Don’t ask me about appropriate jetting to suit, as I know nothing.

All the best. I will go now go back into my shell.

This too, would be my advice

But those standard XR mufflers are worth at least two grog-bogs!!!

Nigel, thanks for the input, I am trying to get another stock pipe at the moment, to cut the mid section out. As it already fits the header pipe flange.

If you get it set-up so that it can be easily restored back to original then you have the best of both worlds :) Although, I’m sure you;ve thought of that.

TB’s suggestions of getting Chicken’s Staintune pipe sounds like the best way to go :)
