What are your turn-ons and turn-offs and So-so’s of riding.

    here’s a few of mine

    I LOVE

    *Flowing S/T and Twin trails.

    *Creek crossings

    *Erosion mounds 7 natural jumps

    *Hill climbs

    *Fast sweepers

    *Low speed monos

*The sound and feel of a good 2T on song

    *Short vertical climbs

    *Short vertical drop-offs

    *Grass tracks

    *Moist loam

*Leading/riding at MY pace (I ride at a clip that is a bit slower than the really fast blokes, but a lot quicker than most seem to like)

*Hitting obstacles at speed knowing my skill can carry me over

*Smaller up to 40cm log hopping

*Mud holes not over pipe height without hidden ruts

    ERR IT’S OK I GUESS

    *Larger log hopping

    *Mudholes-deepish

    *Narrow bridges/twin log type crossings

    *Wet sand

*Sweeping (I can drop back and zoom, then drop back and zoom)

*Really tight technical goat track S/T

    *Ruts

*Kangaroos and wallabies on the trails

DO WE REALLY HAVE TO DO THIS

    *Really stupidly big logs

*Shear drops to one side( I don’t do well at heights)

    *Red Clay

    *Yellow Clay

    *White Clay

    *Brown Clay

    *Deep sand

    *Actual river crossings

    *Single log crossings over heights

    *Following in the pack

*Stupid seat depth mudholes with hidden ruts

So what does it for you?

    ………..

So what does it for you?

    ECKS’ Picks for riding:

Tight single track (2nd + 3rd gear max) with hills, rocks and creeks, generally through forest
    Long steep hillclimbs
    Rocky hills
    Follow-the-leader in dry creekbeds
Red frogs, Jelly snakes and space food sticks(!)
    Magnesium tablets (to prevent cramping)

    Not fussed about:

    Twin trail or fire trail
    Fast open single track
    Vertical climbs
    Jumps
    Motocross tracks
    Endurocross tracks
    Deep ruts and bogholes

    Hate hate hate:

    KANGAROOS
    WALLABIES
    4WD’s
    Fast twin or fire trail
    Supercross tracks
    Tabletops
    Doubles
    Triples
Pit bike riders & redneck hoons on unrego’d MX bikes
    Noisy bikes

    love
    open single trails
    moist trails
riding in thick bush then opening out into a great view, vista – makes you stop and look.
having an enjoyable ride with others , havinga joke etc.
fast twisting singles especially if chasing others
    loath
the off-camber-side of a mountain tight trails that murph seems to relish.
    the boulder vertical climbs and “” “” ” “” “” ” “” .
riding with blokes that think theres a trophy at the end and want to push you off track
rock gardens that go on for ever

    Like.

The pre ride preparation and cameraderie before a big ride

Riding early saturday morning knowing you have the next day off to do the same.

Leafy rainforest trails amongst palm trees.

Riding in the fog in the Mountains

    Post ride beers and stories.

Leading guys through awesome trails they have never ridden

Finding new trails, I have ridden past for ages.

Showing young upstarts what an XR650 can do

Popping a good wheelie on The BRP

Torquing the pig up a hill that the boys on their new bikes are battling with.

Living with in two minutes of the bush and the wicked trails we have here.

    Dislike.

    Lantana

Stupid big hills with basket ball sized boulders

    Massive rutts

Ditches dug in the middle of no where ;)

    wild cattle in the bush

    Dust

    flame outs in creeks

unpacking and cleaning gear after a long trip home in the car.

    crashing out

those split seconds just before you come off

having my headlight smashed by roost.

That is just a few things that come to mind. :)

    :)

Showing your Age Michael it’s what we used to yell out to the roadbike riders on their CB750s and Z900s, “go on pop a wheelie………..Bloody pansy, Roadbikes must be so gutless eh”…

Oh to be young and slightly more silly again

    LOVES –

    flowing, fast singles or twins

    erosion jumps

the bush starting to blur at speed :woohoo:

nailing gnarly hills with the front skipping 6 inches off the ground… heavenly

seeing fellow bulls improve over time, myself included ;)

    damp loamy ground

    whoops in sand

    pulling wheelies through puddles

    powerslides, the faster the better

dicing with anyone, anywhere, as long as there is no dust

taking a shiny bike off the trailer in the morning and replacing it with a filthy bike in the arvo ;)

having a crack at anything and perferably succeeding before im knackered

the dirty smiles of fellow riders at the end of the day

washing the dirt down with an ice cold beer and a laugh

the hook up of brand new tyres

    chicks that ride bikes

the smell of 2 stroke fumes… ahhh, it smells like victory

pulling up to a country pub for lunch, with kids looking at you in awe (like i did as a kid when i saw a dirty biker) and getting the thumbs up from them ;)

knowing that half the blokes in that pub wish they were out riding with you

slimy clay and mud in general

surviving butt puckering moments and the heart thump that goes with them

roosting and getting roosted…with mud, not rocks!

    backing into corners

the smell of hot wet mud on my bike

seeing other riders do things you didnt think was possible…inspiring stuff

laying in bed after a wicked day on the bike, going through the ride in my head…and nearly jumping out of bed when i get to a part that i nearly stacked on

being out of my comfort zone

hopping logs, even if there is a chicken route

    having an electric start

the cornerman system when it works

my lovely wife, who knows that riding comes before family do’s and makes excuses for me

i could go on and on…

    HATES –

4WDs that are only out to wreck the place.

dust, and the things you hit when riding in it

    mechanical failure

afternoon fatigue and my lack of fitness

    wankers on pit bikes

euthanising animals i have hit :(

overheating, whether its me or the bike

mx tracks, i could jump off a cliff and have less chance of hurting myself

any injury that keeps me off the bike

getting hit by roost in the few places that armour doesnt cover

    seeing fellow riders seriously hurt

the cornerman system, when it doesnt work

downed trees that are too low to go under but too high to cross

    fixing drowned bikes

and with that, KTM air boxes! stupid design flaw

running out of water in my camelbak halfway through a hot days riding

getting directionally challenged when low on fuel or light and people are relying on me

and most of all, being to poor to ride at the moment :(
